I’m stuck between a voyager 248 ox66 and an explorer 24 evinrude 300 etec.
I like the voyager better but I want to go with the boat that’s most efficient and reliable?
what kind of gph should I be expecting to get on each set up?
Thank you!

That's an odd way to make a decision on a boat. You didn't mention condition or age of the two nor the motor model and age/condition
Also remember that Evinrude is out of business and if you need service that might be an issue.

All I can tell you is that I have an Islander 270 with a 250 hp OX66 with a Garmin fuel flow gauge. Under average conditions and cruising at about 27 to 28 mph @ 4,400 rpm, I'm getting about 1.8 mpg. I would think that you'd be over 2 mpg with a 248.

That's a pretty decent number. The ox motors are not known for great fuel mileage.

I'd personally hold out for a boat that hopefully has a 4 stroke motor on it as opposed to 2 strokes. They're quieter, they don't smoke, usually they get better fuel economy and Evinrude ETEC's are no longer being produced. The ox66 from what I've read are pretty much bulletproof if taken care of, but I'd personally rather spend the extra couple grand up front and get a 4 stroke motor. Just my opinion of course, though I know that some versions of the ETEC's had I believe they were injector problems brand new in the box to where they needed to be replaced right away. Those I think were the earlier G1 versions? What's your budget and location? Would make things a bit easier so that others could help you look for finding a boat, etc.

The ox66 225-250's weren't too bad on fuel at cruise speeds if they were set up and running right. Everywhere else wasn't so hot though.

I have a 1994 24 Explorer with 250ox66. I get 1.8-2.1 running 4200rpms. I had a yamaha 300hpdi before the ox66 and saw about the same fuel burn. I have a hardtop on my boat.

I assume that they all do it, but my 225OX drops two cylinders, and runs on four up to around 1500 RPM. A lot of shake, rattle, and roll, and something I would seriously consider, if you do a lot of no wake zones, and trolling up to about 10 mph. I was not aware of that “feature“ when I bought the boat, and I find it annoying as hell. I would rather it run on six all the time.

After looking at the voyager I think I’m going with it read a lot of good things about the ox66

I have a 1999 228 seafarer Yamaha 225 ox66 with Bimini enclosure, Powertech 4 blade prop 15 pitch, and I see 1.8-2.1mpg at cruise . What hole is your engine on and what prop are you guys using to achieve 2.5-2.8 mpg? Im located in Northern California.

Mine has the hard top,bow pulpit and windlass and half swim platform on the port side. I'm running a stainless 15 1/4 x 17 yamaha prop and the engine is mounted in the second hole from the top.One 92 gallon fuel tank.

Same set up as MJM, except my engine is on a bracket. 17M Yamaha prop. I also have a Powertech OS 4 blade(16 I believe), it has its advantages, but I felt it was slightly less fuel efficient.

Are you only wanting a single main motor or potentially interested in twin motors? If you are interested in twin motors, here's a 2002 GW 248 Voyager for $31k with twin Yamaha 150 HPDI's and it even comes with a trailer.
