Nothing on the Yamaha website, but Ed's is listing a 300 4 stroke... Anyone heard anything? Maybe an announcement at the Miami Show?

I've heard it's nothing more than a detuned F350.

I'm sorry, but there are better options out there in the 300 HP range than a 800+ lb. V8.

I would agree...one would think that the F250 could be uptuned to deliver 300 hp in the 600 lbs range....which would be far more competitive with Zuke and the Verados.....

NY Boat SHow reps said "soon" on the F300, if anyone is waiting fo it.

Probably cost a grand less than the arm and leg F350.

I don't get Yamahas reasoning on some of the things they do, the 300 is like the 200... Heavy for it's power, and 200 and 300 horse size are super popular sizes.
I think the 200 oughtta be a 4 cyl (like the F150) and the 300 a V-6....

That said; I have never designed, built, or marketed outboard motors...

I agree that a 4 cylinder would drop the weight, but a 200hp 4 cylinder is probably not the best idea. It will be a smaller liter displacement and might be sluggish on some boats. Some of the verado's bigger engines are 4 cylinders like the 200HP(all are supercharged to achieve rated HP's) and I've heard from some they don't have the pep that a 6 cylinder has on heavier boats. On light boats you cannot notice the difference. There is also a 6 cylinder 200HP verado. A few tests have been done and there are many differneces between the two, each has its own applications where it will be better suited, but a 4 cylinder has no place on a heavy or bigger boat. For this,I think going 6 cylinders is the only viable option. I'd love to see weights drop, but right now in the outboard industry, HP is the craze, not weight. I'm sure at some point the outboard companies will shave weight off as technology evolves.

The 4 cyl Verado tops out at 200 HP and is arond 500 pounds. The V6 is mid 600's. The 6 cyl Verados are just too heavy but not as bad as the 350. I don't know what was going through Yamaha's deaign team that thought an 800 pound 300 HP engine will sell when the Zuke and Mercury engine are almost a body lighter.
