Yamaha F150 starting problem

Had problem starting the Port engine today. Turn the key - sometimes your get the beep - turn key to start and nothing. Jiggeled and engaged shift lever - no change. Flipped battery switches - no change. Then it just started working. Happened yesterday but started quickly. Had this intermittently in the past but very infrequently.

I don't think it's a neutral start problem. Original Yamaha switches from '97 install. What do you think? Change a switch or whole module? Source for parts? I want to get it fixed and not get stuck.

I think it is a power issue. Check fuses for corrosion under the cowling. It is possible that there is power to the ignition switch but the switch is flakey.
Try turning the ignition on and listen to hear if the high speed fuel pump is activated.

I noticed "no beep" when turned on a few times. A little panic jiggling and it started working. Seems like its right there at the key start switches. Are they reversible to test? I didn't play with anything else - just the key.

I was gonna say swap key switches and see if it moves. Do they plug in or do you have to cut wires?

Haven't got that that far! Sailfishing Sunday. Probably Monday.

I tried it before and it worked fine!

If newer they should have connectors and I expect they could be swapped. I think that it might be easier ( but risky??) to swap engine harnesses at the helm.

Key switches look like they have inline connectors. If I can figure out a part number I would swap them both out.

Anyone know what the potted black box attached to the back of the assembly does?

It could be the piezo horn, the thing that sounds off for alarms and such

Piezo horn is a separate part that I have changed in the past. Not sure what the black box is/does but it's on a new dual switch assembly ($450 at dealer!).
