This maybe..

I have found it difficult to match the early year grey color. If you want a good match ( remember, your existing color will be aged and may not match the original), the best ( and most expensive) is to have a body shop color match.
Repainting everything makes color match less of an issue as opposed to trying to repair a smaller area.

Thanks Seasick. I ordered the paint from Amazon. I had a welder replace a broken skeg, it is now a moss green I am sure the paint I ordered will be a big improvement.

You’ll want to prep the surface as best you can. Sand down to aluminum. Wipe with acetone. Use a good primer, I’ve used zinc chromate on aluminum. It’s been banned in many states, but I think I found it on Amazon or eBay cheap and someone shipped it to me.

Ask the welder if the skeg is primed. If not, lightly sand and spray with an etching primer for aluminum. I am pretty sure you can get that at Home Depot. Follow the instructions as usual and things should go well

I used that paint - this was my result on a 2019 model Yamaha. Close enough for now, I may respray that section on the top to hide it better.

If you need a good clear top coat try Spraymax 2k. It's a 2 part urethane in a spray can. Only good for one session but is quick and easy.
