Has anyone installed zero degree rod holders on a 236 Fisherman. Looking at possibly 2 forward where current cup holders sit.

FWIW

I have factory installed (not zero degree; maybe 15*) on the bow of my 2018 306 Canyon. I almost never use them.

If replacing cup holders consider these - available in 0, 15, 30-degree and open bottom or drainage system bottom, round or angled flange. Super heavy duty SS - love them on my 232 Gulfstream and have a backing plate to adapt to cup holder holes. Still have the cup holder when cruising and pick up a nice rod holder. I've got two 0-degree on either side of my rigging station to set rods in while rigging, or drinks in when using the table for lunch.

Thanks. Are the standard rod holders 15 or 30 degrees?

The standards are 30 degree, but one of the best upgrades I have done to my 228 was to put Burnewiin rod holders on my boat. Check them out, I do not know anyone who regrets their purchase.

I added the Burnewiin brand downrigger mounts to my boat as well and love how they turned out.

Not too pricey, if you go with the black base. The way I always look at it is, each one of my fishing setups is pricey as well. Burnewiin system is a great upgrade with the fender holders, rod holders and what ever else you want. I had 2 OEM ones break, the bottom half must have corroded to the point of failure. I am grateful, I had my rods tethered.

So is paying tens, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for a boat, motors, trailer, electronics and other accessories. Spending $500-$1,000 on fishing gear that will be used every time you go out, as well as only increases the value of the boat itself, seems like an easy decision to me. But to each their own, bowing out now.

I installed rod holders on both sides of my Canyon 306 (2021) They are on both sides of the vessal just at the front of the center console . There is a seat at the front of the console so someone can fish with the rod in the holder and sitdown. Great for my older friends. Used Grady rod holders.
Worked out great

I think if you are using downriggers, planers or wire line rigs in rodholders and you're flirting with snagging the bottom on the troll, you really need the beefy stuff. Also if you are using 80Ws for very large fish (swordfish, tuna, blue marlin).
Just realize, not everyone is using downriggers like the PNW. The standard rodholders will be fine for most fishing with 50s or less .
Some guys troll. Some guys drift sideways and need rodholders forward and at different angles. some guys do everything. There is no right answer.

I actually did snag something a year or two ago. I was trolling for silvers at only 40' or so on the downrigger and around 80'-90' of water when I thought I had a bite. Went back and realized the line on the downrigger was slowly spooling out. Pulled up my line on the fishing pole, put the boat in reverse and got over the top of whatever it was to see if I could free myself and get my downrigger ball back. Tried for around 5 minutes or so and was unable to retrieve it, so I just cut the line so as to not lose any more of my downrigger braid than I already had. Still not sure what I snagged on as I was only down 40' and in around 80'-90' of water, but it wasn't an issue at all for the downrigger, mounts or anything else. I did however add backing plates underneath when installing the Burnewiin mounts, I think they were an extra $10 per side and figured they were cheap insurance. Though I did call up Grady White, explaining what I was doing and asked if they thought I needed the backing plates and they said definitely not, but if it made me sleep better at night then it won't hurt anything.

Yes. Think of where the cup holder is on the transom between the livewell and aft fish box. I put a zero degree combo cup holder and rod holder in it's place. It's the perfect spot for a bait net.

I also replaced the forward aft cup holders (the ones closest to the console) with combo 15 degree cup holder rod holder. The angle is perpendicular to the line of the boat since we use those for bottom fishing and we can stay under the shade of the t-top. I use those almost every trip. Unfortunately you cannot get a nut on the backside. Fill a water or gatorade bottle with lead shot (i'm a shotgun hunter, so have plenty of it) and put plenty of 4200 on the underside of the rod holder when gluing down. The pair of cup holders farther front have too much flare and they were installed prior to the cap being glued onto the hull.

I also have two 15 degree rod holders installed up front on either side of the anchor box. But I rarely used those.

I've complained to Grady customer service that a boat with the name "Fisherman" in it doesn't have enough rod holders. The Coastal Explorer line has more rod holders up front than mine did factory.
