    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

Your 208 is fine, I almost bought that boat but my buddy told me bigger is better and now that I've gotten into crabbing, I'm happy for the extra space. If I were just fishing, I think the 208 would be fine for two people, maybe 3 if one guy is at the helm. It's a good boat, go have fun in it.

    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

I looked at a 2020 208 and other than the transom/swim platform/2 foot shorter deck, it was identical to the 228. Same cabin, same hard top. The $30K difference seemed excessive. But I don't build boats so I dunno. A 30 foot Marlin is around $200K more which also seems crazy so maybe I just...

    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

I can measure mine if you like. It's a lot bigger, I looked at a 208 because the dealer had one and, well, $30K is $30K. I can't imagine crabbing out of a 208, there is no room in there for the pots unless you collapsed them for the way out and the way back (and that's just a pain). I can...

    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

I don't think the towable is a big factor but I agree on the $30K. I was in a fairly unique position to be able to afford the 228, most people aren't. I kinda think Grady got greedy on that boat. 2 more feet of fiberglass is what? Maybe $1K? Extra 50HP is maybe $4K? Swim bracket is maybe...

    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

I think it is more of a climate thing than a boss thing. If I were in a warm climate, like Texas or Florida, I'd be in a Fisherman 236. But where I live it is frequently 50ish and that is where that big helm shines. If you are running 50 miles offshore to chase tuna, you don't really want to...

    It's official - 228 is no more :-(

And yet they kept the 208 which is a 2 foot smaller cockpit but otherwise the same boat, same seats, same cabin. I don't get that other than it is $30K cheaper and maybe sells more. I paid the extra $30K and am happy that I did. Fishing is the primary use for my 228 and it is a fishing machine.

    228 Discontinuation and Bow Pulpit

So I don't want to be anti Grady, I love, love, love my 228. A buddy talked up his Sea Pro and it looked a lot like the 228 for way less money. I'm fine with what I have but Grady needs to step up or they are gonna lose some business. Or not, they are a business and I've been told that they...

A little bit of a Grady funk

Grumpy old man me thinks that Grady could have sold a ton of those if they weren't $30K more than a 208. 2 more feet of cockpit, swim platform, and 50 more HP, seems like they stuck their finger in the pie too much. I have no idea what fiberglass costs but 2 feet of it, ok, $2K? And $2K -...

A little bit of a Grady funk

Am I the only guy that is bummed they killed the 228? It's been a buzz kill for me, I haven't been hitting up this site as much. They killed my boat and I love my boat. I know, it's silly, there is a ton of good info and good people here, I'll get over it. I'm sure Grady had their business...

    226 Discontinued??

This site is awesome. It's big enough that there are a ton of 228 owners here, Marlin owners, etc. You can ask any question and get good info. If I have helped, that's great because I've learned so much here, if I'm giving back a little, feels good. On electronics, I did the 8610 as well...

    226 Discontinued??

I have the 250 and I think you were smart to get the 300. Not for the 47 vs 50mph top speed, who cares? It's for the hole shot, when it is lumpy out there the 250 struggles a little to get up on plane. I'd have bought the 300 if I knew then what I know now. You'd be fine with the 250 but...

    226 Discontinued??

I looked at the 208, it's $30,000 cheaper. 200hp instead of 250hp, transom instead of swim platform, and 2 feet less cockpit. I suspect that if Grady didn't up the price so much, they would have sold more 228s. Whatever, you are going to love your 228. If you have following seas where you...

    226 Discontinued??

I have a 228 and absolutely love it. It's big enough for offshore and small enough I can trailer it home. For me, going bigger wasn't an option so I'm super happy that I got one before they stopped making them. I think it is a shame, on the west coast those 228's are well loved and for good...

    228 livewell question

I tend to run with the livewell valve open. I've been told not to, the livewell can fill up. It never seemed to so shrug. Until it did. I did 28 miles in a following sea and the livewell is full of water and it seems like it somehow leaked into the bilge. Is that the following sea getting...

Another prop post + performance question. 2005 Seafarer 228 with F225

So I have a different engine, 2020 250hp, and I'm the weirdo that likes to run with the engine trimmed all the way forward to push the bow down. 20mph (not nautical) is where I stay on plane, I lose about .1mpg with the engine trimmed all the way forward. Around 3500-3700 rpm. 4 blade prop...

    Auto pilot and connected main/kicker?

I was in a lumpy ocean yesterday, first time I've really had the boat be pushed every which way. It's a little weird but the boat handled it well, there were times it leaned over a bit but never enough that I was worried. First time I've had to use my wipers, had a bunch of spray come in over...

    Repower

Yesterday I came back from Pidgeon Point at 9mph. Slowest I've ever had to go. 35mph is when it is nice and yes, that is rare.

    My 330 Express Experience

I'm curious about the storage, did yours come with dual tanks and you took out a tank or what? I'd like some dry cockpit storage in my 2020 228. On selling, you probably know, but Grady quit making them. If yours is in good shape you should get top dollar. Though if it were me, and I could...

    Auto pilot and connected main/kicker?

What model Grady do you have? Do you know if it has hydraulic assist? The bigger boats do I believe. Mine doesn't so I'm a little nervous.
