1999 228G Seafarer with Hardtop Total Weight Question

Yeah, I don't know where I got those numbers. Seems too low for top + canvas, seems too high for just canvas. I think it was the dealer but don't remember. If anyone really cares I can run it over a scale and tell you.

    Not my day, lower unit

Yeah, it was the fin. Should I try and paint that?

I'm new, what is the "the bracket"? All I did was grind some metal off the fin. The fin at the bottom of the engine.

1999 228G Seafarer with Hardtop Total Weight Question

    I've got a 2020 with a hard top. Here is my info when I was doing the same thought process: Boat - dry weight = 3510 Motor - 250HP = 562 Fuel/water = 772 Hard top w/canvas = 225 Electronics = 50 Downriggers, balls = 85 Gear = 100 Total...

Trimtabs - Magic Bill will be happy

Super flat pacific today, we called it Lake Pacific. Some minor swell on the way home, 27mph was fine, 32mph was not, launched the boat. Decided that conditions were safe enough that I could try some trim tabs in addition to having my 250 trimmed all forward. Magic Bill, you are right. It did...

    Not my day, lower unit

Came home, stuck the engines in the 50 gallon horse troughs, ran 'em for 15. Dumped the troughs, put the engines back down to drain, went to wash the boat. Got done with that, did _not_ do the required walk around for any time you move the boat, backed it up with the main engine down and the...

Just curious, MPG (or GPM) on a Marlin w/ twin Yamaha 300s?

Hey Fishtales, Tow vehicle is a chevy duramax dually, I've towed my 12K excavator on a 4K trailer with it just fine. I'm well aware of the issues with towing that much weight, so that part should be fine as long as the trailer has good brakes. You're right about gas bills, I've put a little...

Looking for a Grady owner in Southern California

My harbor is Santa Cruz, so up north. I've thought about trailering my 228 down south to chase tuna but it's a haul. So I'm trying to see if there is another 228 (or similar, 208, 232, whatever) down south and maybe we work out some sort of swap. I'd happily take you out up here for salmon...

Just curious, MPG (or GPM) on a Marlin w/ twin Yamaha 300s?

I thought I was done with my 228 but I went out on a 27 foot GW and wow, the ride was better. There is a 2016 Marlin for sale, curious as to what the gas burn rate is in good conditions on plane and in slop on plane.

    208 Adventure Top end

Listen to seasick. Not that you are not but he's been around the block. Lots of good advice, no disrespect to the others, but start with him. I got on here and asked for advice and didn't dig into who was telling me what. Tons of good advice, tons of nice people trying to help. I can list...

    208 Adventure Top end

I've got the 208's bigger brother, 228 with 2 feet more deck, 250, and swim platform. Other than that, identical boats. The 208 is probably close to 1000 pounds lighter with a full gas tank. I get on plane just fine with that 250, the only time it struggles a little is in really lumpy...

Stupid thread but here it is

Yeah, that sounds about right. Plenty of salty dogs. But there are nice people as well and I'm slowly developing a reputation as a fishy guy, I've put a lot of fish in the boat, this year I'm sure that I've given away more than half of my take and I've got a lot in the freezer and many trips...

Grady hit by whale in Rhode Island

Yeah, I agree people get too close. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the whale stuff could have been avoided by backing off. I don't know though, just guessing. I know Alan Tani has a 2nd radar like thing that sees under water. I need to talk to him and see if it would give you enough...

    208 Adventure Top end

This is perhaps not that helpful, but Grady claims a top speed of 47mph for my 228 with a 250. I've had it at 45mph on the Pacific (it was a very flat day). I could easily imagine that on a flat lake, no wind, you could hit 47. I said the Pacific was flat, flat is relative. It's never flat...

Stupid thread but here it is

On the one hand, I'm getting there. Been out a bunch, while it's not as easy, I can launch, get fish, and dock solo. I've spent a year learning, learning, learning. Which, me being an engineer, is actually fun. Once I got a new Grady, the first boat was no fun at all. So I'm getting there...

Stupid thread but here it is

Yeah. I wasn't ranting so much about me, I've been yelled at there but I usually deserve it. There is a new guy on there that found me and Joe (228 with a pilot house replacement for the hardtop) and we were answering his questions and he said we were a lot nicer than some people on coastside...

Stupid thread but here it is

And my signature says we don't get that much fish, I lied. In the last 13 months I've been out around 45 times. Fish and/or crab all of those times except 2. I don't know if I'm fishy or lucky but whatever, I'm bringing home the fish. Yesterday I finally targeted halibut for the first time...

Stupid thread but here it is

I'm on a local forum and it sort of sucks. Their charter is "help new fisherman" or something like that. Tons of salty dogs crapping on newbies. I just want to say how much I appreciate all of you. This forum is welcoming, has a ton of knowledge, steers people in the right direction. Your...

What is this and how serious is it?

I'd just walk away. My first boat was a Triumph, seller said the same thing, I didn't even know enough to get it surveyed. I spent 2 years trying to get that boat to run, gave up, sold it for a $15,000 loss and then went overboard and bought a brand new 228. Which I adore. I know it is...
