1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Glad it all worked well. I am super happy with how mine turned out. Hose replacement was difficult! I too read about coating vs not coating the tanks. My boat was 33 years old when I replaced the tank. It definitely had water in the compartment. I currently store boat indoors and the...

    Marlin On Trailer:

If you tune the diesel you do risk voiding the warranty. This is well documented. But, it's not like you're doing it to enter into drag competitions. Most diesel tuners have historically deleted the emissions. This is an illegal, although often done, modification. If you remove emissions...

Parts for 1984 Seafarer - Wanted

Does the hatch mechanism slide and lock as it should? I am investigating making one (have a couple machinist friends) vs buying one. I know you want to sell the complete package, and I may circle back around to make an offer.

    Crazy Repower Idea

I don't think it's a crazy idea if the motor is the right size. I'd be concerned about power. It's not that it won't move you....but when I'm in waves I want more power than less. I've known people to do exactly what you're proposing.

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

No worries. Glad it worked out. Paul was great to work with and I told him I'd pass his name along anywhere I could. I was impressed with the tank and how it was shipped. I hope it all works out for you. - Shawn

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

I went with Patriot Marine Fabricating in New Jersey. He makes them a little narrower so they fit better, but otherwise the stock GW design and he's a certified fuel tank manufacturer. I think it was around $750 for the tank and a couple hundred in shipping. Beautiful tank. Paul Spisak is...

Parts for 1984 Seafarer - Wanted

LOL! Mine has a hatch :) Are you willing to part with the hatch adjuster only or the whole thing has to go? Thanks for looking for it. I looked at making my own hatch adjuster - machining a new one. But, this would require less of my time. :)

    Re-powered my GW226 with a Honda BF250

Looks awesome!! I considered Honda (250) for my seafarer. It was a challenge to get someone local to provide me with a quotation and confidence. I believe Honda makes a very nice product. I ended up repowering with a 300 Hp Mercury Verado I6. It was one of the last I6 models made in 300HP...

Thanks. That's kind of what I figured. I do have the existing cushions for the cockpit and I can use them for templates. Thanks everyone for the help. If anyone has parts or a source...let me know! Thanks!!

    anchor size for a 228

I purchased a 17# stainless steel danforth style with stainless chain (10' I think) and then 250' of rope. It does the job and looks good too! I hate the corrosion you get with coated anchors.

    Price for a 1985 Seafarer 226

I purchased my 1984 with blown motor for $2800. I ended up redoing the transom, new fuel tank, new wiring, new motor, etc. It came with a trailer (which I sold to get one more suited). It had new isinglass and canvas and a hard top with rod holders. I think you're in the money with your...

Parts for 1984 Seafarer - Wanted

For my 1984 Seafarer, I am looking for the hatch adjuster that folks are using for the hatch the pops up to the topside deck (bow side of the cabin). Mine is corroded. It's metal and about 8" long and I can not find it anywhere. Also, for my lids on the fish boxes under the helm seats, I want...

    I don't understand

THIS!!! I can't understand the crazy outboard mania and the designs of many of today's boats. They definitely are not designed well for trolling and catching fish off the stern. I have a 22' seafarer and have tremendous room to fish in the cockpit. No tripping over people or whatever. Have...

Congratulations. If I planned to keep a boat on the water, I'd own a Marlin. When it comes to wiring, I hate chasing the intermittent issues. I pulled all wiring out of my Seafarer and started over with a marine circuit panel with breakers and ran power to it from batteries. It was a huge...
