    Replacing Lewmar windlass

Look at the chain links for a spec that should be stamped on it. Most likely your chain should be G4 (43) spec. Here is a link to various chain specs. Scroll down to the G4 section. The specs for 1/4 G4 are listed. Although there are several versions of 1/4 chain, only G3 is correct. Measure the...

    2000 Adventure 208 is 150 HP enough???

Interesting. The SX150 weighs about 450 pounds (without prop). So a 225 option will add about 150 pounds. Find a person who weighs about 150 pounds and have him or her stand in the motor well (the motor doesn't need to be running. Have the typical amount of gas and gear you normally carry and...

    Hairline cracks

What model boat and what model motors? It is difficult to see the cracks in some of your photos but based on what I can see, he transom is flexing. The second pic is the more worrisome since behind that area on the port side is where a stringer bonds to the transom. Although I dislike the climb...

    84 Overnighter Bilge Location

The bilge pump pumps out through a through hull on the side of the hull and about a foot or so above the water line. It should also be pretty close to the rear of the hull. If you find the through hull, take a look in the rear bilge area for where it connects to a hose that then connects to a...

    battery

For two batteries, there has to be a ground to each from the two motor feeds. There has to be a jumper between the two negative posts. There has to be a ground or more than one ground smaller gauge wire for accessories. This may have been wired onto a separate ring terminal or the grounds may...

    Steering slow to engage

If i top off the steering reservoir on my other boat, if the helms warms up as it can on a sunny day and with the helm cover on, it will leak fluid out of the vented fill cap. Read your manual, mine says to leave a quarter inch of space in the reservoir

    Adding a Third Battery

Very interesting install. How are the house batteries wired to the loads. Are all three in parallel or are specific loads connected to individual batteries? How did you wire battery switches? Does non cranking power for the engines come from the start batteries or the house pair.

    2000 Adventure 208 is 150 HP enough???

I don't have them either. Once in a while they would help but I lived without them for so long, why change? That said, I wouldn't buy a boat without them.

Cockpit Fresh Water Systems ? Holding Tank Systems ?

A few points to think about. Adding a small amount of bleach, perhaps half cup to a full fresh water tank ( 10 or 12 gallons perhaps) will slow down growth). Regardless your tank will grow thigs if the water if stale for a longish time. How long depends on the quality of the water you filled...

    2000 Adventure 208 is 150 HP enough???

Way back in the year 2000, the motor spec'd for the 208 without a hard top was the SX150 (2 stroke). If you wanted the hardtop, Grady recommended the 175 2 stroke. in my opinion and if I had to repower my 2000 208, I would go for the inline 4 cy, 200 motor. The 6 cyl 4 stroke is heavier and the...

Hardware rust on a 2022 Freedom

Gradys have been known for their quality of build, be it hulls or hardware or general build quality. I don't think I am off base here. On this forum you can find issues on newer hulls that you typically don't see for a lot more years than many of these boats have. So I may be a minority of one...

Hardware rust on a 2022 Freedom

I hesitated to comment again about the Covid models of Gradys but since it was mentioned I can't help but to chime in. There have been many quality of build issues mentioned on this forum regarding Covid era Grady builds. I have seen examples at boat shows also. It rattles my belief that the...

    Walk Around Bow Rail

What is the reason why you hit the rails while docking? Do you have a fixed dock? I had a similar situation where the hull would 'slide' under the dock edge at lower tides. It also rode higher than the pilings when a super tide occured. The fix was to mount two 2 x 6 8 foot planks onto two...

    prop shaft seal

There are two ways to remove the seal as mention by Hookup. One is to remove the big nut and the carrier assembly In addition to needing the special tools, note that the nut may not want to come out and may need a lot of heat and/or a chisel to break it into pieces. Even after the nut is...

    Sea-Tow membership

Before deciding if you are better off paying your own way if you need a tow, you might want to research what a typical tow would cost without insurance. It is common for that number to be quite a surprise. The other potential gotcha pertains to groundings. Your policy should specify what...

    Prop selection

Sometimes there is a diam/pitch spec stamped inside the hub end that is nearest to the gear box.( The prop has to be removed to see it. Sometimes dirt or corrosion covers up the spec. It can be a mistake to assume that comparisons between what others are running are valid if the motor specs are...
