Fell MOB+ vs ACR OLAS Guardian

wire nuts should never be used in a marine application ( well in some very small gauge applications, maybe). The crimp style shown above are OK. What is important is to use marine grade connectors. That means plated usually and adhesive lined (if possible) I have not seen newish WAGO style...

    Replacing Lewmar windlass

Note that just selecting chain by thickness (e.g. 1/4 in) is not enough. You have to match the spec of the chain to the gypsy. I have collected four different lines with chain from old boats. All were 1/4 in diameter links. All were different link lengths and widths and NONE were G4:) All sort...

trim tabs 2000 adventure, any input?

On my 208, I use trim pals. That is when you ask your pals to switch seats or to stand on the opposite side.

    Sea-Tow membership

I think my Boat US was $165 last year. It was for the basic package. I think it is up in August when we will see if it goes up.

    Replacing Lewmar windlass

The new 8 plait is 'softer' than the older 3 strand and plays out/lays down better. It's all about the vertical distance from the pile of rope in the locker to the capstan. When the pile of line gets bigger, the distance to the capstan gets shorter and then there may not be enough line hanging...

    Sea-Tow membership

I think the basis service is $199 a year plus any upgrades. I suppose there is sale tax if your state has a sales tax.

    Replacing Lewmar windlass

You probably don't need a new windlass. You need the correct chain and line in addition to a well made splice. You can buy a Lewmar made chain/line setup from Lewmar There are also a lot of other offerings out there but it has to be the correct chain. You shouldn't be trying different spec...

Carburetor rebuild - Pilot screw turns question

The screw you are referring adjust the amount of fuel at idle. The throttle plate on the other hand adjust the amount of air. If you kept the linkage intact and the motor ran OK before the rebuild, just reinstall and leave alone. The master idle adjustment for the motor should be obvious since...

Carburetor rebuild - Pilot screw turns question

The problem is that setting the idle using the master idle screw is a no brainer but in the case where the carb to carb to carb linkage adjustment was changed, just setting the master idle screw does not insure that each carb is sucking the same amount of air.

Carburetor rebuild - Pilot screw turns question

For some strange reason and it has happened more frequently lately, the message I posted yesterday did not get sent. hmmmm

Carburetor rebuild - Pilot screw turns question

Did you find anything different on the 'out of spec' adjustment jet? If not and you also verified that the threaded hole that the adjustment screw goes into is clear and you correctly adjusted the float height, I would start with the 1 3/8 turns and see how it goes. Sounds simple but if you...

    Adding a Third Battery

If everything works fine and you never had an issue, why change it? Sure you could add a separate house battery but to be done correctly, electrical changes would have to be made assuming that the new house battery would be a deep cycle type. You should not parallel batteries of different types...

    Cockpit cooler boxes not cooling

Unless you are a HVAC technician, I do not recommend trying to recharge. You can do more harm than good. If the boat is new, refrigerant should not have leaked out

    Salt water

Was the bottom paint antifouling paint? If so depending on what was used (manufacturer and type name) you might be fine.

    Getting close 1983 seaferor

Good luck with the restoration. I assume the model is a Saefarer:) Other than the effect of the added weight of a pulpit, the extra length doesn't really affect performance very much since it is the length on the water and not the length overall that is a factor in performance. The added length...

    Outboard RPM Speed

I agree with wspitler. As long as the boat at WOT runs in the specified rpm range ,other than cleaning the hull, there is no need to run at high revs. The carbon issue is true for 2 strokes but not four. With respect to additives, see what the manufacturer recommends.

Advise before pulling trigger on 1990s 226s

As far as I know there is no aux tank at least for gas. Check the spec for max HP for that model and year. I thought the max was 200. I also have doubts that a boat of that age would be in excellent shape. There are things that wear out and age. Did you see the first boat in the water? If so...
