    Does it expire ?

I use Marine Techron and have found it as low as $50 /gal. Now $70 on Amazon. I personally believe it to be equivalent to Ring Free, maybe even same stuff.

    motor damage

Simply removing the lower unit will not show anything. I'd remove the lower drain plug, which is magnetic, and see how much fuzz (metal) is on it. If you have put many hours on it since the skeg damage or last oil change and there is any gear damage, there may be more than the normal amount of...

    motor damage

Have him get the "skeg" rebuilt. Not a big deal if there was no internal damage to the gear case. If you can find a good repair shop they can weld on a new piece and make it look like new. I would not opt for a cover piece.

Looking for some opinions on my electronics.

I have two 5212s and an older Garmin radar. Both work just fine. I have the old GSD 22 black box. On my Scout I have the Garmin 94SV with side scan. Side scan and chirp are worth it For bottom fishing where I fish. I would opt for changing out one of the 5212s with a chirp capable machine and...

Toe In or Toe Out for Twin Engine Applications

Kizuna, Thanks for that info. I wonder if they are measuring it differently, but I too have found the answers you get from customer service don't always match what comes out of the factory.

Toe In or Toe Out for Twin Engine Applications

Just passing along some info: I am repowering my 330 from the original F250s and considering the engine alignment (toe) for the new 300s. Just talked to GW and was a bit surprised that they said all twin engine applications on all models are 0 toe, in other words, all are installed parallel...

    On board charger installation

If you are planning to plug it in while the boat is in the water, you will want to install a galvanic isolator to prevent galvanic corrosion issues. I think that was an option from GW.

You Can Call Me Captain Beefheart

Doc, So glad to hear of your successful operation! Mayo is the best! I've had two operations there, hip replaced and hernia fixed, both went perfect! My daughter works there (Jax) as a wound specialist. I am always super impressed by that organization from the docs to the admin folks...

    Voltage Question

See the same thing on my 2007 330. The voltage regulators are computerized and provide voltage based on battery bank state. Mine often start at 13.4 and build up to 14. After some time running and the battery is being topped off they will drop back down to 13.2 which is maintenance charge...

    AC Unit Replacement

I also have a 2007 330 and my AC is very reliable. My few issues have be remedied with the diagnostics built into the Passport I/O control. Make sure you don't have a minor problem before you decide to junk it. They are pretty reliable and not real complex when you get right down to it. The...

    Plumbing fixture replacement

Most of those drawers that slide out have a latch on the back top of the drawer that retains it and keeps it from coming all the way out. You can just rotate the latch down and the drawer will come all the way out and you will them have access behind it.

    Adding new cleats

You could remove one of the existing bolts to determine thickness and reseal. I'd use stainless elastic stop nuts and stainless steel fender washers if you can get them in there as backing. I wouldn't use 5200 as it is permanent and if you develop a problem down the line, forget about removing...

Water in bilge - Freedom 285

My 330 gets up to an inch of water in the bilge after a heavy rain. I believe most of it comes in thru the anchor locker hatch and the windlass hawse pipe. It is never enough to activate the float switch and bilge pump. I suspect it also comes into the rod holder grommets and around the...

    Steering wheel cap removal

Om my 330, that nut screws off. I used a rag to accommodate the rounded edges and a large crescent wrench.

    Tankless Water Heater

A true tankless water heater has a very high amperage (power) requirement and unless you’re planning to rewire to a 220 V system the smaller 110 V systems often require more than 30 A of service. A quick look found most tankless units require more than 3000 W. But I’d be very interested if you...

    High Pitched Alarm Marlin 280

If you have the Yamaha square gauges they will indicate what the alarm condition is if it is engine related. Look closely at the gauges. If coming from the cabin you might have a CO alarm or high water alarm. The FP generators also have alarms.
