    Hard top capacity?

I’ve seen tuna towers on Grady hardtops and always wondered how much weight could be handled. I’m not sure I would ever walk around on mine but would have no issue distributing 100lbs of gear up there.

    Adding a hardtop

Think “Holy Grail”. Many have tried, most have failed. Possible, but plan on 6 to 10 grand and lots of failed adventures before any possibility of success. Will have to be found used or there are aftermarket options. If your heart is set on a boat with a hard top, my recommendation is hold...

Good craftsmanship. It’s always satisfying when one’s hard work pays off.

    PFD

Received my EPIRB and registered it this morning. Did a test and all seems good. Got me thinking about other onboard safety equipment. During the many years of owning my small skiff (Boston Whaler 17 Montauk), the rule was wearing of life jackets was mandatory while on the ocean and optional...

    Seafarer rod stowage in cabin

That’s pretty much the storage process I use. The vertical rod holders installed at the rear seats are used for club, bogagrip and rods when rigging or running between spots. Most rods I use are between 7’ and 9’ and don’t fit real well in cabin anyways.

    Seafarer rod stowage in cabin

Shhhh! Don’t give away my strategy. I wanted to add holders to both my camper shell and in the cuddly and haven’t found a good way due to the thickness (or should I say thinness) of the fiberglass, so for now I’ll just hope someone else found the secret and will post up.

    Seafarer rod stowage in cabin

A solution? Leave them at home? Just kidding. I installed these. Doesn’t help if you want to lock them up.

    Questions Please

Pighunter, if your close enough to visit I have a 226 (same layout as 228) you could inspect to see if the space fits your needs. I pull it with a 3/4 ton Duramax and if the boat was any bigger I would not enjoy towing it.

    Scratched Compass

Until I get autopilot, the compass will continue to be my best friend when salmon trolling in the Pacific. Take your eyes off it for a few seconds and your heading changes 180.

    EPIRB?

Some good information I scraped from the net. The best beacon to have is the one you have with you when you need it! EPIRBs are required to float in an upright position totransmit (perform best when floating) PLBs float so they won’t get lost, some need pouch to float.(They need to be held...

    EPIRB?

Seems like ACR has the biggest following here in the US, but not so much in the rest of the world. The McMurdo has 10 yr battery life and can be swapped out by consumer.

    EPIRB?

Looks like you both opted for manual activation units. I was leaning that way too. I do like the GPS with AIS model as more and more boaters are using AIS and may be closer than coast guard in an emergency.

    EPIRB?

Who has one? Which one did you choose, and why? Who has had to use one (or know someone that has) and how did that work out? PLB in addition to EPIRB or in place of? I’m leaning towards this one:
