    Seafarer Fresh Water Tank

The old Seafarers have a 10 gallon tank a little behind the cabin door, that feeds the rear shower and the sink in the cabin. Later models have the water tank at the rear of the boat and the filler on the starboard side of the livewell next to the plastic rod holders .

    Rocket launcher

Thanks KY, what do you mean 20'S. What size are the washers ? I was going to use 5/16" but if GW uses 1/4 I would think that is sufficient. I know GW don't use plates even on their rod holders. On the newer 228's they have S/S plates on the outboard bracket, I wonder when they started using...

    Rocket launcher

Thanks for the advice . You meant mark 10 times before drilling . I'm well aware that sealing is very important as water penetration will rot the hardtop core even if it is not wood ( composite ). I know I can use bigger bolts , the reason for asking , I think the bolts GW use would be more than...

    265 Coaming Bolster removal

I normally insert a philips screwdriver in the holes underneath and fish fir the screws , they are on a 45 to 60 degree angle when you find one the others are easier as you get to know where they are located. As others said once the screws are removed you lift the bolster upwards , the seat on...

    Rocket launcher

I'm about to install the rocket launcher on my 228. I would like to know what size bolts are used to secure it to the hardtop. Are they 5/16" or 3/8"? I know there are 3 bolts on each tab. Thanks in advance.

    Trailer options - thoughts?

With dual axle trailers it is very important when the trailer is hitched to the truck it remains level so the load is equal on both axles. If you have load sharing suspension it doesn't matter so much. All USA built boat trailers I have seen don';t use load sharing sus. I have a 228 on a...

    Do you use Ethanol free?

In Australia nobody uses ethanol on boats either . A few years ago lots of people used it on their cars , a lot less now . It is false economy here as well because it is only 2 cents cheaper than 91 ( equivalent to 87 in USA). We use Euro RON , you have RON+MON/2. Ethanol has less energy per...

    Lower RPM's on Yama 150

If the engine is running 100% then weight, trim, current, wind and aerodynamics all play a roll and all of them together can explain the 700 RPM drop. 5 mph drop in speed at 5300 works out same prop slip as 39 MPH at 6000.

    Auto pilots

I don't have it. Would I like one ? Yes but not to get to my destination, I prefer to steer myself for reasons given above. I would like to have it when trolling especially when only 2 on-board . I may consider fitting one on the new (to me ) Seafarer.

    Do you use Ethanol free?

I don't use ethanol in the boat or in my car , absorbs water, very corrosive and eats rubber, terrible on aluminum tanks too.

    Fish boxes

Different boat Russ but in my 228 G you can easily fit big kingfish as tuna I had up to 70 lb in the starboard side box. I keep a large fish bag in my boat for large bluefin and yellowfin . Big bass grouper won't fit in there due t the big head . This one went well over 100 lb.

    New to me Seafarer

Welcome to the Seafarer club. I just got my second 228 hardtop, perfect for me, plenty deck space , easy to trailer and very capable offshore even on our rough Pacific.

Just joined the club! 2004 180 Sportsman, Some Advice Please!

Where I am in Australia , most boats have roller trailers under them, as I did in the past. I used my first bunk trailer USA made a number of years ago and I will never go to rollers again. They both have advantages and disadvantages . If you always launch on very shallow ramps or beach rollers...

    Grady striping replacement

Thanks KY good to know if I need decals and pinstripes . I thought the genuine stripes would all be in one tape otherwise it would be very difficult to put them on exactly right. My current boat is old as well but I keep her covered when not in the water in order to stay in pristine condition...
