My new Seafarer 228 (new to me, 2013 model) has one like that on the aluminum rear swim platform. Since GW upgraded the seafarers to 300 hp the swim platform is aluminum and it's part of the engine bracket , welded together .

Do you even need to tape it? I have a 250 Mercury Optimax she has the lower pick up as well, I use muffs, I don't tape the bottom pick up and she works perfect. The new boat has a 4.2 250 Yamaha so I will have the same problem as you guys.

The GW stock colour as in all old Gws is off-white pinkish. Any one in the auto trade that colour matches should be able to get it very close. If you mix white with a little ( I mean very little ) red and very little yellow you will get very close. All colour matching is trial and error.

I think you left the trailer off another 1500? Tongue weight should be between 5 and 10% of the total trailer weight closer to 10% rather than 5% and you can adjust that to suit you by moving the winch post .

18" won't be enough, you have to go to 17" pitch . In your old 3.3 with 2.0 box at 5800 RPM and 19" you have 2900 prop revolutions . With the new 1.75 box at 5800 and 17" you have 3314 prop revs. Very similar speed with both so that would work about right the new engine will give you about 1 mph...
