    Permatrim for Yamaha F150

Bennett or Lenco electric trim tabs will help but only at higher speeds when running on plane. If you’re targeting increased mpg while trolling you could consider propeller size and possibly switching to a 4-blade.

    Small Offshore Comparison’s

Just be aware that the 2005 and older 208s are lighter and will squat in the stern with a 250. I was able to remedy this by adding 200 lbs of sand in the place of the porta potty. The boat runs a lot better upsea (cuts through instead of bouncing) and the downsea handling was not affected. My...

Rod Holder Upgrade from Stock to Tuna fishing grade

Save money and make your own. Use 1/4” or 5/16” three strand nylon with an eye splice to stainless carabiners. I can’t remember if the Lee’s backing plates have a hole to secure the tethers you. If not you can use these between the backing plate at the nut: Dog River Tools Stainless Steel...

    Those kill switch thingies?

If solo I’d rather run a lanyard to a seat base that’s long enough to let me pee over the side but not enough to fall overboard. I’d also vote for a bucket or container that can be emptied overboard; the porta potty is too far forward to use in rough water.

Is there away to restore the windows and rubber seals on the windows

I recall someone had asked Grady a while back and the comment was that the seals were not user replaceable. My windshield was leaking a lot offshore so I gave in and sealed all of the frame base on the outside with silicone. I also injected the silicone between the gasket and the windshield...

    Small Offshore Comparison’s

I know two people running 208s with 150s. For offshore use you won’t be running WOT often so you really don’t need the extra 50-100 hp unless you’re running really heavy. My friends burn between 1.8-2.4 gph while trolling so they have a lot better range than I do with the 250.

    Small Offshore Comparison’s

I fish a 208 in Hawaii and we often have a mix of windswell on top of long period ground swell. The 208 handles very well for its size and we regularly fish up to 25 miles offshore in less than ideal conditions. I’ve been out on small craft advisory days and the boat has been predictable in...

Thinking about air ride seats for my 228

40 is too fast for a 22 foot boat in anything but glass smooth water. Spend some time learning how the boat reacts with both trim tab and engine trim manipulation. For the trim tabs you’ll want to use them in short bursts of maybe half a second (as others have said). Remember to retract them...

Rod Holder Upgrade from Stock to Tuna fishing grade

Lee’s or CE Smith make good zero degree swivel holders. Make sure you get backing plates and tie downs. I’ve found that the nylock nuts that come with most swivel holders back off during use; we’ve had success with two jam nuts instead. i personally have some custom ones made by the guys who...

    Propeller Grady White 228

Call Ken Reeves at Prop Gods and he will get you dialed in. (941) 735-5808 He’ll likely recommend a PowerTech LFS4 or OFS4 depending on your application. Budget around $520 for it shipped.

    Hawaii fun

I remember someone posting that the dry hull weight changed to account for the 4 stroke engines (around 2006 for the Adventure, a year after my boat was made) so adding the weight helped the upsea ride and leveled out the hull on plane.

    Hawaii fun

Been fortunate to have time in the last few months to get on the water and get the boat more dialed in. The weather hasn’t always been the best but the boat handles well (adding 200 lbs of sandbags in place of the porta potty helped a lot).

    Trim tabs

Sometimes I find it easier to learn visually. Google/Youtube have been helpful. Watch the engine trim video first: Then watch the trim tab video:

Round deck plates - pop in or screw in?

Not as pretty but installed clear spin outs in the motor well to allow for a quick visual check of the bilge in case the float switch on the bilge pump fails. Also noticed less water in the bilge when running in heavy seas since installed the spin outs in the motor well.

    Bumpers/fenders on a 228?

Thinking out loud. You could make the pvc longer and offset the hole so it can be flipped and the bumper can be higher or lower in relation to the rubrail/waterline? I guess that only applies to some of us who live in areas with relatively small tide swings and lots of fixed docks. Nice idea...

    Bumpers/fenders on a 228?

I bought em when the went on sale at West Marine. 6x22 or thereabout for sizing for my 208. The 12” diameter round/ball style will work too. More importantly is learning to adjust their height if you’re docking somewhere with non-floating docks. I’d recommend non-braided line/rope for them as...

    Yeti-Set-Go!

maybe put stickers on padding on it with a contrasting color so it stands out? I can see it being convenient but also a tripping hazard since it’s still not too tall. I think the bloodier/more oily tuna (spotted/skipjack) taste better if bled, brined, and consumed as fresh as possible. They...

228 - making it water tight?

Agree with the others to make a punch list, email the dealer, and copy Grady so you have a paper trail. The dealer should work with you to try and resolve the issues. If you’re not satisfied you’ll have a history to go to Grady with.
