    Off shore safety

They shouldn't have gone out with the front coming through and anchoring in those conditions on the stern was foolish. I remember at the time people just bringing up stern anchoring and saying you never do this...Probably the most common way hook/line commercial guys anchor in the GOM. Most...

    Satellite weather

I had had a Garmin puck that hooked up to my little 541 Garmin unit on my Mako at one point. Had a subscription through XM radio.

    Reface an instrument panel?

You can always make something as well. I had some materials around the garage and made this. I wanted to change the layout at some point so didn't want a huge invest at this stage. I have thrown that voltmeter USB in the gulf of Mexico!

    268 repower single 300

What's the HP rating on that hull? My boat is listed at 244 with a max of 300hp, but I would assume you have much more beam than me. I'm a little over propped right now and hit 44-46mph and cruise at 28-30mph burning 8.5-9.5 GPH depending on conditions/load.

    Raising outboard at the dock.

The stop is only there for servicing the lower unit. Get some heavy schedule PVC and make your own sleeves just a bit longer so they rest on those if you want the motors out of the water. If you're at a dock with a lot of shore voltage it's probably not a bad idea. I had mine down in the Keys...

    repowering a 2007 Marlin 30

Nice! Much better than that weird blue colored motor - lol. As others have said Ken is really the best bet. It's a pain in the rear playing the guessing game. I'm still a few hundred RPM off on my 300 for WOT. Good luck dialing it in and enjoy!

    Repaint wood Trim

I would assume it's the Duracrap. If it's that going by the year you would sand with 220, prime and paint. I like the Alexseal products but you could use a decent single stage paint from Interlux. I'll be doing mine in the coming weeks.

Grady White’s Use of Wood In Transoms and Stringers

I have a 1977 Mako----there isn't a 17' foot boat built today that rivals it. Some of the Grady's I feel are the same way. There is nothing wrong with wood construction if the end user protects it. They still use balsa in high end boats today. If you're not building a race boat wood is still a...

    Only one trim tab working?

They are around $60 on Amazon. Mine just showed up today. Also, if they only have one of the colors just get it and cover with electrical tape or colored heat shrink. I have 2 greens on mine with red heat shrink on one.

    Only one trim tab working?

I just had to do this again and had a bad solenoid. This could be a good sticky for the forum. I have used it a handful of times. Rip tabman Fluid: Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) any type. Hydraulic Power Unit is self bleeding, running the Trim Tabs up and down 3-4 times will purge air...

    24 Offshore Express repower

Grady didn’t recommend putting the heavier 300 4 stroke on the single bracket. I would go with a full bracket for either twins or the larger single.

    SeaDek

I’m going with Dekit. They are a bit firmer than Seadek and I’m not a fan of castaway customs. They are doing my dash, swim platform and double thickness on the bolsters all the way around. Should be ready to install in a few weeks. Freeman put Dekit on the map.

Changing control cables on a 92 Explorer - any special helm access needed?

Yep, under the trim you gain access to the screws that hold that chase together. It's easier than working through a pie plate in the cabin.

Changing control cables on a 92 Explorer - any special helm access needed?

Under the wheel/dash you can remove a couple panels and see where all the rigging comes up. It should be an easy run with a fish tape.

    Repair hatch with no wood??

Coosa/kay-Cell is pretty pricey stuff. I would go with a honeycomb. 1/2" sheets are about $55 at FGCI. Nothing wrong with end grain balsa or squares of ply. You just want to make sure your hinge areas are made with milled fibers and fumed silica. If you like to spend money just get scored...

    Gunwale non-skid repair/restoration...

For a recreational boat I like Kiwigrip. Much better grip but easy on the feet and can be tinted ANY color. It is also very easy to repair. The downside would be that it can be a bit harder to clean if you lay it to thick. My little boat was a feature boat on their site. I first used it about...

The Official KY Smoky Keys Thread

That spring high just sits above FL and we get east winds with small craft advisories everyday. Right around memorial day the rainy season changes everything--lol

The Official KY Smoky Keys Thread

Spring can be hard and I'm glad you got some good days in. The summer pattern is much more predictable down there but the fishing isn't as good. I was supposed to go down this weekend as my in law has a place for the month, but it's a no go.

Penetrating epoxy into freshwater hatch help

With the price of ply go grab some honeycomb board. It’s about $55 a sheet for 1/2”. FGCI might sell half sheets or repair panels.

The Official KY Smoky Keys Thread

Spring can be awful in the Keys. We stopped planning trips ahead of time and will shoot down if there is a a stretch of good days. Sucks heading down and the boat never leaves the trailer - lol. Glad you got some fishing in!
