1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Well fill hose showed up and things became frustrating and went downhill from there  The first thing I did is replace the 4" screw out inspection plate under the driver's seat with a 6" version. There's no way I could work in there without more room. At first I spliced the hoses together...

To foam or not to foam

Madhatter, I went through this whole ordeal 2 years ago with my 228. I only had one engine on the Grady bracket. I decided to pull the engine off the transom. Water and sand from the previous owner gushed out at the transom. Then i paid a company to sandblast and powdercoat the old bracket...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Thank you Ky, This project is well worth the effort. And your advice on how to snake the new hoses in was a great help to me! Grady built these boats substantially, I don't mind putting in the time like you to make sure the job is well done. PS-Guy that pumped out my gas used a forklift to...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Cut an access hole to get at my fuel and vent hookups. Carolyn that works at Grady White customer service is the most helpful person for these older boat projects. She always goes above and beyond! Interestingly enough, Grady plumbed in a second set back in the day in case the owner wanted to...

1987 228 Seafarer Aluminum tank and Fuel lines replacement

Tank and lines replacement project is in full swing now. Found a company here in Reno that could pump out the remaining gas. Got tank out by cutting the sides of the deck a bit. Will be unnoticeable once the hatch goes back on. Was super lucky I didn't have make any cuts on the fiberglass near...

Racor 3213 Fuel Filter Water Separator

I think when someone chooses a nearly impossible access location for an install, they are laughing their butts off knowing the pain they will cause down the road ;) Not a big fan of spending time working on anything in the bilge.

Racor 3213 Fuel Filter Water Separator

Just did boat some boat maintenance on my Seafarer 228 yesterday. The Racor separator is in a tight spot in the bilge, so I tried something that made the job easy and clean. I bought an oil filter wrench from O'Reilly Auto Parts that was used for 3.24-3.5" applications. It fit the Racor...

    Hose stretcher needed,,,,,,,

Hey Ky, I'm curious, did you remove the gas fill at the gunwale when you installed your new lines? Looks like there are 3 nuts to take off, but not sure if it's necessary to remove it to replace the old lines. Thanks in advance! Lee

    Boat Trailers: Bunk vs Roller

I have rollers. I like being able to drive the boat back onto the trailer when I come back to the launch. BUT Last season one the lead rollers failed, and it happened just as winter hit, so I had to wait until the next spring for the snow to melt and float the boat off the trailer in the...

    Transom

I bought a used '87 seafarer 4 years ago and hired a surveyor during the process. There was moisture in the transom, but the price of the boat was basically the price of the 4-stroke motor on the hull with low hours as well. There were no soft spots in the transom, so I decided to purchase it...

    Hose stretcher needed,,,,,,,

Question(s): Did you pull the new hoses up through the gunwale or down to the tank coffin below deck? I understand about splicing the old and new lines together before pulling and praying. And, your aux tank fill line is the same location up front as mine. Can you give me a guess on how long...

    Coffee Maker for a boat

Camp a lot, Starbucks via Italian Roast is my go to=strongest. Also used to heat up milk in microwave at home, stir in the Via, and it was a great tasting latte....preferred it over Starbucks drive through for taste.
