2000 272 Sailfish good bad ugly

I had a 1999 272. We loved the boat, we had a 1 year old during the start of the pandemic and decided to try and list it. First person to look bought it and the wife wasn’t happy about the sale! I have boat A.D.D. and we kept the 272 longer than anything else by far. After a year boatless we...

    Trailering Random Question

Jack was off the ground, barely. Truck is capable, 2500HD Duramax. Truck is about 1” lower in rear compared to front when I measured tires to fenders, I can live with that. I have a new receiver hitch that will bring the trailer tongue up another 2”, won’t effect truck height but it will level...

    Trailering Random Question

Got the 305 Express on the trailer today, I am happy with how it sits, truck didn't seem as low in the rear in person as the picture shows. Also uneven surface. The boat was placed by a hauler and was a little low for this trailer, once we got the boat a little higher on the blocks it went...

    Trailering Random Question

My old 272 Sailfish would sway behind my 2500HD at 40mph if I did not get the boat far enough forward. If the boat was just 4-6" off front winch stop it would barely have any tongue weight. The boat was so heavy if it wasn't all the way forward when floating that was it, and before the ramp I...

    Trailering Random Question

I feel like any trailer that sways is due to poor load balancing and wrong lounge weight. The load can be adjusted front and back with moving axels and winch post on a boat trailer to achieve this. A camper is more restricted on interior layout and design requiring load levelers on light duty...

    Seagull deterent?

The Gull-Sweep works ok, but it sometimes gets knocked down by the birds. I tried a fake owl, but I swear they just made friends with it! Best thing that works for me is trying some clear mono fishing line in a square or triangle around top between the antennas/rocket launcher rod holders...

Best place to have cushion made around Boston north shore or metro west?

I used Darek Nurzynski of Charlton, MA. His cell is 617 312 4297. No affiliation, found him on FB Marketplace and used him twice and he did great work for a very reasonable price. We will defiantly use him again. He will pickup and deliver also.

    fuel management sensor

I pulled one apart before and got it working for a little while before it failed again. Its not supposed to be serviceable but I figured I had nothing to loose. There is a spinning wheel in there and it was all loaded up with debris. I remember at least 1 bolt would not come out, I got it out...

    Great Grady Decal, Admins?

I asked once a while back, any of the admins ever consider a Great Grady Decal to support the site? I would proudly display it on the boat.

    Need Insurance Recommendation

I had GEICO/Boat US for 7 years and then Progressive for 3. With the 305 Express we just got both were pretty high. I got a quote for Sea Tow and they wrote it though NH Insurance Company and were significantly cheaper. Only the first year with them so we will see what next year brings...

    fuel shut off valve

Our old 1997 Islander with twins and 1 tank did not have a shut off. The fuel lines ran along the far starboard stringer inside battery door/transom seat, our fuel flow sensors were there also. It would be a pretty accessible spot for a few 1/4 valves.

Some of those online photo services really do wonders. Look on Etsy, there are a lot of people who advertise there and could answer if they could help

    2002 Grady White Express 265

I would imagine that has factory twin 225's. "Older" boat is very subjective, the 14 year old boat we just bought is the newest boat we have every owned. I like to tell my friends looking to get into boating you need to be handy or have an open checkbook, I tend to fine myself handy. You can...

    Extra Bolster Fabric?

Pre pandemic I was pleasantly surprised on how reasonable a local upholstery shop charged to a similar amount of bolsters. If you have not already it might e worth checking a few shops, if I recall correct he had the material on hand from another job.

Transom cap on twin engine boats replacement cost

When we did this on our old Islander we were removing motors anyways. Home Depot had a big enough piece of aluminum angle we used. We also had some old starboard to use as spacers so the motors wouldn't crush the new cap. If you have something sturdy to back the boat under that you can hang...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

I had a dump trailer derated when it was new and the manufacturer made it sound like they do it all the time. The trailer is a Load Rite, I would have to have it rated at 14,500, which on paper would give be 12,000 legal capacity, which should be ok. I figure I'll do a little more soul...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

The way the law works is the total potential weight, so the combined GVWR of truck and trailer. My truck is 11,350 and trailer 17,500. Similar to you I figured on a scale I would be around 22-23,000lbs. I was told the boat at the potential of weighing just over 12,000 with all tanks full, it...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

States can adopt stricter standards than the feds, from what I found Mass has not which is surprising. I will weigh in around 22,000 I am figuring on a scale, but that doesn't matter as much. In the end I think I am going to print this article and leave in my glovebox. There are a lot of...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

Truck and trailer combo is fine. 2022 2500HD Duramax GVW 11,350, 2018 Load Rite trailer 17,500, total of 28,850 gvwr. Your F150 gvwr is around 7k and prolly a 10k trailer, so you are nowhere near 26,000. I know I will need an overwidth permit, thats not the end of the world. Looking to see...

    Towing 30'+ & CDL, Non-Commerce

I just realized I accidentally posted this in tne photo section, if a admin can move it that would be great Any drivers at the dealer would need a CDL, they are for commerce. It’s the private owner moving their own boat which is in question.
