    MSRP Discount in today’s economy?

I forgot to mention that in the last couple of years, a lot of boats were selling at more than MSRP

    MSRP Discount in today’s economy?

Ask yourself how you feel the economy will be in 6 months. Maybe confidence will be high and so will boat prices, so buying now may be better. Remember that next season, your boat will have depreciated another year though. A lot of folks made some poor financial decisions on getting into...

    Marine survey

It depends on the particular paint. If you want to be certain that readings are true, you need to sand off the bottom paint, down to the gelcoat I am not sure about barrier coat though.

    Fuel Problem

I probably wouldn't advise the sender removal yet. The OP needs to be sure he understands the difference between burn rate and remaining fuel level as far as the fuel management system goes. Two many unknows so far to make a reliable analysis of the problem.

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Of course Yamaha looked into the problem but they never published results. I know there are theories about fresh vs salt, cold versus warm weather etc but not of that explains how some folks with twins that were rigged at the same time, had issues on only one motor. That would lead me to...

How much gas did it take to fill up? What fuel management gauge do you have?

    Fuel Problem

Look on the tank near the sender end or the fill end for the label that lists capacity. It is unlikely if the tank is original that both pickup tubes would be too short. In addition, if run and a buddy stand aft, the level will increase around the rear of the tank resulting in the pickups...

Typo on my part. Should have said.. Personally, I would be leery about 2006 225s.

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

I am a bit humbled by my poor assumption. Your previous profession as chief engineer is a big advantage. Yes this is a different boat ( by far) form both the commercial vessel and your lake boat but that is why a professional survey is advised. He or she should have hands on experience with...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

My first question is: Do you have previous boat ownership experience? Don't take this the wrong way but if new at the game you may not see things you need to see. A thorough survey as you plan is most important. I would not rely on an engine status report from a mechanic at the marina where the...

    Questions on windlass

Using all chain may not be preferable for your size boat. The chain will be more expensive, a lot heavier and will take up more locker space thus reducing the max length of anchor 'line' you can handle. The recommended length of chain varies by application needs, type of anchor and hull size...

96 - 208 Soft spot over gas tank

IN addition to weight and cost, epoxy resin by itself is very brittle and does not take bending forces well. Your all epoxy filled deck lid will most likely crack under typical operations stresses. This topic brings up another piece of advice when laminating and that is to not overdo the resin...

    Re-wiring a boat?

The time that a motor or a hull is underwater is important but not nearly as critical as the time between when the hull is 'salvaged' and when the rinse and motor service start. I will add one caveat to that statement; Electrical things as well as electronic things have a better chance for...

    Re-wiring a boat?

Good point about fuse blocks and panels. They will wear out but even those can be a job to replace. My advice if you are going to do rewiring is to but good marine wire, buy name brand connectors and crimp fittings, and but good quality wiring tools ( crimp and pinning ) .

    Re-wiring a boat?

As several have alluded to, if it ain't broken, don't fix it You may not realize what a big job a total rewire will be. Remember, all the original wiring is installed and attached to the hull and deck before those two parts are joined together.

    Winterizing

Assuming the boat is stored on land, You can run the motor at idle on the flush port but I prefer muffs. If you don't usually flush your motor with fresh water after each use, you may benefit by doing a salt treatment/flush . It may be a bit late but it helps to add your gas stabilizer before...
