Yamaha Digital Guages excepting GPS Speed?

If you Google "connecting gps to Yamaha speed gauge", you will find lots of posts on this topic. I'm pretty sure that the older round gauges can be connected via NEMA 0183 just like the square ones. I don't know if the wire color code and the dip switch setting is the same, however. I'll...

Yamaha Digital Guages excepting GPS Speed?

Because the gauge uses the input mph to calculate miles per gallon. The water intake for the Yamaha guage often gets at least partially blocked by weeds and is not accurate.

Your S1000 is not getting a signal from your Garmin. Most likely one of your NMEA wire connections is bad or else the unit is not wired correctly. It can be a challenge getting them right since there is no standard color code. I ran my S1000 for the first time today. It was flawless although a...

    20ft Grady White Overnighter with a 115hp.

When they first came out in 1975, most of the 204Cs were rigged with either 115 or 135 hp OMC engines. Mine ran fine with a 135 Johnson until we had more than 3 people on board or loaded diving equipment. Then it would be pretty doggy but would still get on plane. Top speed was 37 mph with one...

    tying up on a beach

Since you normally have an onshore wind in the afternoon, it's best to anchor with the bow facing offshore. We used to put the bow anchor down regardless of the direction of the current and then wade or swim the stern anchor to the beach. After pulling the stern around toward the beach, we...

    GW 225 Offshore?

My 226 has a similar weight distribution as the 225. I run it out 25-50 miles on a typical grouper trip. It's been out 70 miles for snapper. The hull will handle 2-4 ft waves on long runs even with a fairly short period. Anything bigger and you'll probably need to get off plane and stick your...

Grady White Overnighter - Model Number Question

They did lose the lapstrake outer hull design sometime in the mid 1980s. There was also a change in the center of balance around that time, which gave a somewhat drier ride. The later SV2 hull was a big step up in ride quality. The old lapstrake 204 Overnighters were bow heavy and about about...

How do I remove cockpit bolsters, etc?

If your rear seat backs are the same as the ones on my 226, you will run into an interesting design problem when you try to remove them. They are hung on clamps just like the side bolsters. But there are 2 screws near the bottom of the cushion that seem to have been installed BEFORE the cushions...

Question about water in fuel tank

If you are using non-ethanol gas, water will separate completely and not be a problem as long as you use a Racor and don't let the water in the bowl get too high before draining the bowl. I used to get wet fuel on and off years ago and always just ran it until all the water was gone. A Racor (or...

2003 F225 Corrosion Fact or Fiction

You would think that the manufactures would stand behind parts that are known to have inherent vice even after the warranties expire. Honda does the same as Yamaha. The end result is that folks who have a problem will never again buy that brand of engine again. And the tell their friends and...

I'm putting a Raymarine S1000 in my 226 this week. I put an AP on my '86 Grady years ago and it saved me about 50% in fuel consumption and running time when fishing offshore. I have a hard time staring at the GPS steering function when out of sight of land and I'd veer all over the place. They...

2003 F225 Corrosion Fact or Fiction

It's a materials problem that seems to only affect certain model years. The earliest models don't seem to have the problem. Nor do engines manufactured after late 2007. It has nothing to do with maintenance or saltwater use. They don't all go at 1000 hr. Many never show the problem and others...

Clean fuse block or replace? Opinions needed!!!!

I spray it on every electrical connection that I can reach on the boat and in the engine when I wax my boat. That would be about every 6 months. I use it on my fishing reels as well. It's good stuff. I have no visible corrosion on anything that I've been hitting with Corrosion-X.

Clean fuse block or replace? Opinions needed!!!!

I'll second everything that bc282 posted. Don't just replace the fuse block. Rewire your boat to avoid the inevitable electrical connection problems that you will experience otherwise. I used to rewire my old Grady every 3 years. I would change everything out except for the engine harness...

2003 F225 Corrosion Fact or Fiction

I would make the deal contingent upon the engines passing a visual inspection of the exhaust tube. The inspection should not cost more than 2 hr of labor (~$200). Personally, I would hire a marine surveyor to do the inspection if I could not be present myself.

2003 F225 Corrosion Fact or Fiction

Compression won't tell you anything about the presence of corrosion issues unless the powerhead is already starting to fail. You need to have the mechanic drop the lower unit as if the water pump was going to be replaced. Then have him look up inside of the exhaust tube with a scope.

2003 F225 Corrosion Fact or Fiction

If you drop the lower unit and look up the exhaust tube, this is what the corrosion looks like: If you go up the tube with a lighted bore scope, the pitting and corrosion usually gets worse. The problem seems to be related to a casting or coating material problem on some engines. They do not...

    265 Express at slow speed

Trimming the engines down makes the bow plow and prop walk even worse. I find that trimming my engine up almost to the point where it starts to ventilate greatly improves my low speed tracking. Grady White actually suggested that to me and it worked.

    fuel filter/water seperator question

Re: fuel filter/water separator question Yamaha has reformulated both Ring Free and their Fuel Stabilizer and Conditioner to protect fuel system metal components, including aluminum, from the corrosive effects of sulfates. The ethanol industry has also been required to reduce the amount of...
