    New Owner - Checklist anywhere?

I did three Winters in South Florida with my in the mid-90's. Mostly in the Key's with some Bahama's trips. Bimini, Chub Cay and Eleuthera. Never that far South. I have not been back to the Bahamas. Since then I trailer my 268 Islander down to the Key's every Winter for a month or two. Lately I...

Is there a way to adjust the windlass speed?

Don't do it. That's not a cable anymore it's a fuse. Great way to start a boat fire!

Is there a way to adjust the windlass speed?

I anchor up in 25' of water in the Keys to bait fish. If the line in the locker has been knocked down everything works great. It's when I go to the edge of the reef and put 200+ feet of line out. The windlass will do a good job for a while but I have to go up forward and knock it down in the...

1994 Grady White seafarer 228g Fuel Sender

Download your owners manual from Grady White site. Lots of useful information in it. Sending units are typically accessible under a "pie plate" access port in the cockpit.

Is there a way to adjust the windlass speed?

Dennis's comments are correct. The anchor lockers are overloaded with too much line. Knock the piles down and try it. This affects the rope/chain splice too. Knock it down. I'm using 8-plait. I just replaced my whole anchor rode with new 8-plait and new chain. Old rode wasn't that old but was...

    Charger and Shore power

Don't cut the plug off. Splice a short female cord in and tape it up.

    Charger and Shore power

I removed my original charger and battery wiring harness. I used all the wiring the ProMariner came with and spliced the power cord in. I'm on my third ProMariner charger over the years. I eventually spliced in a short molded extension cord and finished with adhesive heat shrink. Then I plug...

    My next project!!

Went over the original wiring harness today. Everything was working before but it's hard to believe given the amount of corrosion on the wire. GW didn't use tinned wire in 1997. All the copper wire is black. But I found a way to use a Dremel tool with a wire wheel to clean the wires up. I then...

    Fuel Gauge Removal

Not likely he pump at this point. Try pumping the fuel primer bulb(s). They may be old and in need of replacement. Spin off fuel filter can. Replace it every year but fill with fuel before hand. Also filter on engine under cowling. Same deal. Of course make sure there is fuel in tank (don't...

    Fuel Gauge Removal

That "cable" with no connector might be the water tube from the lower unit! Squeeze it. Does it feel hollow? If it is it just slips on - may be a little tight. Cut the ty-wrap.

Agreed Dennis. Waiting on photos. Need to cut some ty-wraps and fan out the wires.

    Freshwater filter

Download the owners manual from GW site. It should help you find the pump. Probably no filter just the pump overwhelmed. Freshwater System The 275 comes with a pressurized freshwater system. The freshwater pump is activated by the freshwater switch on the helm switch panel, and supplies water...

Was I always doing it wrong?

Galvanic action too. Big advantage of outboards with motors up and out of the water. For freezing winter fishing I would leave it down too. Other problem is no fresh water in the marina. Fortunately I don't have to deal with this anymore - I head South.

    Fuel Gauge Removal

I just went thru this with my boat. I ordered a NewWire Marine gauge and switch panels arriving tomorrow. You will have to snip wire ties. Organize the wires in your hand by gauge and take a photo. Do each gauge. I would use a label maker and carefully mark everything before you take it apart...

Was I always doing it wrong?

Saltwater will only get into the lower unit and water pump. It won't get up into the cylinder block. Interesting find but I'll still flush mine in the up position though.
