The OP may be referring to the entire dash casing, which surrounds both the instrument panel and the e-box opening. In 97 and 98, GW used a brown vinyl type material. From 99 on they cast it from fiberglass, and in 2000 they expanded the opening of the box.

My 01 226 w/ 200 HPDI topped out at 38 with the Yamaha Prop....with the Mirage I saw 41. The Mirage liked to run close to the surface...at WOT trimmed only slightly out I was at 5100 RPM...trim it up and it was almost like an overdrive gear....speed would pick up and RPMs would go to 5400.
