Yes I’ve been around i didn’t see the response for some reason, my autopilot is fantastic. I still sit at the helm and order others around but you have a lot more freedom. It’s pretty good in smaller seas and I think it gets you there quicker as there is less wandering :p

Paulfitz, I think you really need to assess out of the water unfortunately. As Dennis has said repairing existing units is definitely the way to go ..... until you physically see the problem there won’t be a remedy available

With the engine raised you will see a hexagonal nut on the LHS of the tilt trim unit itself. Undo the nut and add the oil via syringe or pump until oil starts coming back out, raise and lower once or twice then let it sit for an hour, recheck. Reservoir is full when oil runs out.

I don’t see that moving batteries will change the handling that significantly on a boat that size, it’s a bit like shifting an eski, the engine trim should compensate in my opinion.....tabs try not to use them if possible but they will lift the stern if required I have 3 AGM batteries next to...

One thing you can try is disconnecting the hose and see if there is a blockage somewhere

I don’t have a plug for my Marlin, it has a drain in the bottom left of the tank, I just sit a sinker in it...yes it slowly dribbles through but it takes a while... A cheap alternative
