    Grady or Cobia

Hmm, interesting question. I don't know much about Cobia. They were once long ago built in the next town over from where I grew up. I suspect they are a good quality boat. Every boat has its compromises. I know Grady kind of over builds their boats. The deck hardware, lifting rings...

    Yamaha repower questions

I repowered in the spring of 2017. The 4.2 liter motor is noticably stronger than the 3.4 liter in the low and mid RPM ranges. If you can afford to go digit , I would . I went digital and love it. There is some value in your old motors , if they run well and they do not suffer from dry...

    Flushing Yamaha F250s

Does it have a turbo boost when on the plane? I bet it could get you an extra mile per hour on it. Lol. If your motor died for whatever reason on the lake, I bet it would get you home. That's pretty cool.

    I don't understand

Perhaps. I personally could not justify spending $100K on a boat that only one person could ride in, with no shelter from elements only to chase micropertus salmoides. It does one thing and one thing well I suppose. At least I can justify with a smidgen to the admiral that I can catch dinner...

    I don't understand

Bass boats. Those dudes spend $60k, $80k or more on a boat designed to hold just 2 people and catch a fish only good for the bassamatic 2000. You can't hang out with your family at the sandbar and you can't really go long distances. Sure you can go fast and all But out of all boats out there...

Transom Seal (Should I Be Worried?)

    Gil bracket removal

Why pull the bracket? You could scope it for inspection. I suppose you could pull it then reseal it to make sure it's water tight. Make sure you get a new plug and washer/gasket as it is the likely culprit to your water problem.

What Year did GW stop using wood

Technically is Greenwood XL. It's better than Marine plywood in terms of rot resistance. It still could absorb water if they didn't glass it in right. I am not too worried about my boat. Then I venture over to THT and realize my boat is rotting from under my feet as I write this post. In fact...

    Fuel tank project is complete

Awesome job! Let's just say when KY visited my home a few weeks back I was embarrassed about my boat. My boat is in a shed under cover but I don't shrink wrap it or cover it for the winter. My cats git their muddy paws all over the boat. There were leaves in the cockpit and a stain line from...

    Replacing batteries on a 228

Group 27 as Doc says. You could all out and do AGMs but it's not necessary. I doubt they are OEM batteries. With that said what ever you do, don't connect them in parallel by connecting the negative terminal of battery 1 to the positive terminal in battery 2. Trust me I know said outcome.

Garmin 1042 xsv size on bail mount

Anyone install a Garmin 1042xsv on the bail mount inside the e box on a 228/225 or 208? I am trying to figure out if it will fit and you can still access with ease the knob and buttons. I do not want to flush mount or mount outside. Garmin lists it's dimensions as 12 x 7.3 inches . KY...

Help with deciding on a new Garmin unit and transducer

Called Garmin today. They no longer offer repairs to GPSMAP 4000 series units. The guy said it might be software or the antenna. I have another one laying around from that era so it might be compatible. I called Gil and the boat devil is sweet talking in my ear to upgrade all of it. I will...

Help with deciding on a new Garmin unit and transducer

I have the typical Garmin puck antenna mounted to the hardtop. My boat is in the shop getting some stuff worked on right now. I think it just plugs into the rear of the unit.

Help with deciding on a new Garmin unit and transducer

My 4208 GPS side is messed up from my goof ball mistake last summer when I wired my batteries in parallel. The sonar and radar work fine, but the gps receiver is whacked out. It works for 10 seconds then stops for 10 Minutes. Then it will for a few seconds then it won't. It's good for a depth...

Help with deciding on a new Garmin unit and transducer

Hi Guys, I need some help. I need to upgrade my decade old Garmin 4208. I have dual frequency Digital GDS 22 Sounder and an airmar shoot thru hull or in hull 1kw transducer. I have a Garmin 24xhd radar. I am stuck. I think max size of the screen is 10 inches. I will likely gimbal mount...

The Salty Dog Updated 4/30--Got 2 questions??? Latches and Charger??

Grady introduced the green stripe around the 50th anniversary time frame. If you like it I bet the Grady dealer can get it for you. I think it was in 09 or maybe 10. My boat is an 08 and when I say the new boot stripe in green, well I liked it a lot. If I ever replace my stripe I will...

    Vhf lesson

I only get to fish but a handful of days a year. I mainly target dolphin (mahi,) and when I get my lines in the sea and I am on the troll I like to bop over to 68-69 which are the local chat channels and radio fish as it were. A lot of local guys will say hey fish on and many are nice about the...
