    Bimini / Keys trip report

Motor worked well. Glad I upgraded. I want to get a 4 blade prop for her. Brian, I am on my way. Departed Key Largo at 11 today. Stopped in St. Augustine. Trailer is performing very well with the Deesmax components. It has been rainy and breezy today. Funny how we departed and I saw a...

    Bimini / Keys trip report

Well I finally got my second new motor back on July 10. I have been in the Keys from July 19 to the 26th and then went to Bimini in the Bahamas from the 26th till today. Crossing both times we had a head wind of 10-15 knots and choppy seas of 2-3 with a 4 footer every now and again. Got to the...

    drive by wire controls

I have the Yamaha digital controls. It is a great system. The precise throttle controls are very nice. I trolled with it for mahi and there was zero RPM drift as I like to call it. It is smooth shifting and control.

At the moment I will run with the Tacos as they are on the boat. I will report back after my Keys trip. I have yet to use them.

    2001 282 repower

Hi Anchor Boy, I just repowered (twice now) with the 4.2 liter. I have a collected 10 hours experience with it. I love the digital controls and it was worth it for me to go digital. Twins may or may not be worth it. The 200 inline 4 has had great reviews. The question is the displacement...

Repowered 1994 Grady White Tournament 192

With my 192 , it was a 98, I went from a Johnson Ocean Runner to a Yamaha F150. I don't remember size of prop but I ditched aluminum for steel. You get less flex and more power with steel. Also, you can fix a steel prop way better than aluminum should you hit something. Go with steel and boat...

    Got my boat back

Greetings: I got my boat back today from Mid Carolina Marine . Put 2.3 hours on it today at Lake Murray. my previous motor had a power tech OS4 prop. Insurance paid to Mid Carolina and I just ran with a SDS Saltwater Series II prop. Per Doc Stressors advice I am breaking the motor in kind of...

    208 Adventure Cabin Light

LouisR, the type of light you have is different than the light referenced above by the OP. How do I know? Well my courtesy light mounted under the ebox of the hardtop matches in description as the OP. My switched failed twice and I replaced them twice. I went to replace a third time and called...

    Opinions: 2000 Adventure 208 vs. 1993 Explorer 245

The 24 is a bigger ride and will ride better. I am not an inboard outboard guy so I shy away it but that's me. Older boat has older wiring and such. Once you get that stuff fixed if it needs it then you got a nice 24.

New boat or keep the old

That's a tough choice. I myself love the walk around style and do not appreciate the center console. I would buy the dual console first. You can fix the 226 up for a fraction of the costs but all new Gradys are now composite stringers and transom. That's a nice piece of mind right there.

    In-hull transducer for 180 Sportsman/Fisherman

Dave, you would need to trim the transducer box to match the deadrise angle . In my boat it is mounted kind of midway between the bottom center to where the first chine starts. It is rectangular and it is mounted so the short side is fore and aft. While our boats are not the same, you can get...

    AGM batteries

I put AGMs in and use an external smart charge for them. My lifespan was no different than my flooded batteries. In the 226/228 the batteries sit together on the port side. The AGMs are much heavier. After my west Marine deka ones failed ,like Doc, I said forget it and. Just bought flooded...

Need information on E tecs and other modern 2 strokes

I would say if your budget allows go for the Gen 2 ETEC. I know zero about motors but I have a little knowledge on selling stuff. Down the road you may want a new boat and while g1 etec is likely going to be new , hanging the G2 model may help with resell value especially if the motor proves...

    In-hull transducer for 180 Sportsman/Fisherman

I use an Airmar M260 1kw model. It is paired with a Garmin digital GMS22 Sounder. Old school not fancy. If I was a serious bottom fisherman I would have that new 3D stuff. Maybe in a year or so I can update my head unit. I run a Garmin 4208. It is mounted as far aft as it can be in my boat...

    4.2L F250's - 265 Express

Rob, I think it is similar in size. The 4.2 uses the same block as the 3.3. They increased the bore size and used plasma infused boron or something to line the cylinder walls. I think Yamaha would have dimensions on their site? Good luck.

It was all fun and games till my motor got stolen

Bumpye, The more I read about this stuff going on in Florida and the southeast , these guys were likely part of an organized ring. Their living is stealing motors and boats. I don't believe for a second it was a couple guys looking to score money for crack. It was quick, surgical and clean in...

    Launching/Retrieving Gulfstream

I probably trailer in terms of distance annually rank in the top 10 on this site. I have both an 08 and 15 Tundra. Toyota changed up the tranny in 10 or 11? The Gulfy is a sweet boat. The Tundra with a 5.7 should be fine towing. With that said, towing is easy. Stopping is the hard part...

Happy new owner GW 226 seafarer

Does your boat have a hard top? If not, maybe consider the F200? Yes it is 50 less hp but it is also much lighter. The ETEc option to me is a solid one , I am almost went that route on my 228. Doc is the 226/228 guru here . His sage wisdom is sound.
