    208 Bilge Pump

The bilge on a 208 is very dry. The only time mine gets water (aft) is when I flush it out with a hose. Some water will accumulate mid ship but you can't see or easily get to. You may see it run aft when hauling the boat at a ramp or when storing on a trailer or rack as long as the bow is...

    Hardtop 1993 -1998 for Adventure 208

I forgot to mention that there are hard tops and not so hard tops that use canvas like material stretched over a frame. They are less expensive but may not meet your needs.

    Hardtop 1993 -1998 for Adventure 208

There are 'kits' from vendors like Atlantic Towers that can be shipped unassembled ( shipping is costly though). I am sure there are fabricators near you that can make a custom top but they can be quite expensive. The hull mold for the 208 is the same for many years but the deck molds aren't. I...

    sealed batteries???

I am not sure what sealed actually means: My batteries are flooded cell type but you can't add water since the cells caps are not removable. I would assume there is some sort of venting and also assume that ithey wouldn't like to be submerged. I am also curious what document stated no AGMs for...

    Marine Surveyor

Reference are good if you can get them. You can ask perspective surveyors for references. When a reference comes from the seller, a broker, or marina that is representing the vessel for sale, I urge caution. Same for mechanical motor inspections. There is the potential for a conflict of...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

You are actually making progress. The more you understand what you don't know, the better you will attack a project by seeking the wisdom of those who know more. The first place to go is manufacturers websites. Once you are totally confused, call sales and support and have a chat. They will know...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

You raised a good point. If could be a lot easier cutting the old cable and/or rod than replacing a steering cable in tight spaces.

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

I thought tat you installed both the steering and the AP.. The original post stated that he was thinking of converting to hydraulic from mechanical. That conversion can be more complicated than adding AP to an existing hydraulic system. In your case, I was curious if you had trouble removing...

    257 Advance - Engine Repower

In addition to possible insurance issues with overpowering, there is no easy way to know if the transom is beefy enough for the extra horse power.

    Does it expire ?

I was going to say that and agree to pay postage:) On the serious side, I have been using the Startron version of ring free for a bout three seasons/ My motor is 20 years old so who knows if it makes a difference. Motor still runs good. When Ring Free increased to almost 60 bucks a quart I...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Trapper, what year hull? Did you install the systems yourself and if so, did you have to unbolt and slide over the motor to get the old steering ram out?

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

If you get 'lost' in the fog, a compass and/or your plotter will suffice. If you get blinded in the fog, radar will be a great help. As a rule, even on autopilot, you shouldn't leave the helm while under power. If something gets in the way, the autopilot will steer you right into it.

    Pompanette Vinyl Armrest Restoration?

I knew an old salt who would paint his vinyl seat cushions s with Rustoleum. To my amazement, the cushions looked pretty good and held up for a few seasons and then he would re-spray. That was a while ago and before vinyl specific spray paint so I would think that todays products are better. To...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Grady's recommendation for a 200 on that hull is hydraulic steering. With regards to auto pilot and other upgrades; Heck, it's a 208, a great boat but still a 20 foot relatively light one. I am not sure I see a need for auto-pilot without understanding your trip needs.

    finding a balance......moving the batteries.

which fuel hoses? Engine to tank? I suppose that if they are 15 years old, it makes sense to replace. The primer bulb may be OK but if it is hard to squeeze, it may be time for a new one. If the run is short, I would just go for the new line as long as I was sure I can get the old one off:)
