Re powering an old Grady .

Having your mower run out of charge is a lot different than running out of propulsion at sea. That said, the electric option mentioned ( where did that post go?) is not available. The manufacturer was taking pre orders at $300 but isn't taking those anymore. Who knows what is going on.

AC Install in 282. It Works!

Although it probably looks neater with the screw mechanisms nicely in line on one side of the hose, the truth is, the preferred method is to have the screws 180 degrees opposite one another. The reasoning behind this is that sometimes the hose will “pucker” slightly under the screw on the clamp...

    Cockpit heat ideas 208 Adventure

In theory a hydrocarbon fuel when combusted will produce two compounds, water (H2O) and Carbon Monoxide, CO2) in reality 100% efficient combustion is not always achieved and as a result other compounds are produced. Ignoring the nitrogen compounds for this discussion, the most likely byproduct...

    ID this model DC?

That makes sense that the OP only saw photos. Based on the early 80s brochures, the 24 foot tournament with outboard had a low cut transom fo. The inboard version had a full height transom so maybe this hull was repowered as outboard. The teak doors in the walkthrough look similar in location...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Two methods to help the glass lay out correctly are: Pre wet the cut sheets of 1708 with resin, laying the material on something that is not porous like a plastic sheet or panel. after pre-wetting, lay up the material and roll it out, using additional resin as needed. The second 'trick' that...

It's not really a practical option right now especially for a boat that big.

1997 Sailfish 272 Aft Bilge Pump Access

Before you go nuts, I believe that the 12v feed for manual operation and auto operation are different. The manual feed comes through the accessory bus at the helm usually whereas the auto feed is wired directly to a battery using an in-line fuse. Since the manual mode works, the common ground is...

Who do you have your boat insured through?

It's pretty much standard that if the vessel is decaled a total loss and you take the payment, the insurance company owns the boat. This is the same as it would be with a automobile. You can't have your cake and eat it too! ( Actually that adage should be " You can't eat your cake and have it...

1999 GW Fisherman 222 Blige repair

There isn't a lot under the oil tank platform since the hull angles up from the keel. I wouldn't be very concerned about the crack at this point. I would poke it wit a pointed tool just to bee how extensive it is. I don't think it will be all that deep. In that case, I would clean it out and...

new Grady quick connect engine flush

If the setup looks like this ( the Mercury version) https://www.amazon.com/outboard-flush-adapter/s?k=outboard+flush+adapter and you have the threaded part installed, the snap on fitting is a standard garden hose coupler like Melnor or the like. Those are usually available at the box stores...

This product may work. Supposedly it doesn't stain and is non-toxic. It is colored as well as UV light fluorescent. https://www.ebay.com/itm/274557272521?epid=1419306057&hash=item3fece381c9:g:mD0AAOSwdhNfnvPT

    Deck delamination

Yes, you understand my thought about whether the soft are is 'domed' or if it isn't but flexes down. As noted by others, you need to find the source of the water and that can be difficult. Sometimes you need to dig out the foam to find out where the water is flowing from. The foam as I mentioned...

Who do you have your boat insured through?

I research insurance every now and then. For me, Progressive. Their rates have increased a decent amount since Sandy and the more recent hurricanes but have always been a lot less costly that Boat US quotes. I had only one claim, that being after Sandy and it was handled quickly and professionally.
