    GemLux Deluxe Outrigger Bases

Seamless edge on electronics box but I still went white. No time to wet sand out to match the underside of the hardtop (super smooth and high gloss).

    GemLux Deluxe Outrigger Bases

Agreed - the seam will stand out. I'm trying something today. I protected the hardtop and bolted the electronics box in. I then filled the gap with fairing compound. When I take it apart and clean the edge up I should have a fine edge to mate with the hardtop. If the edge is crisp I may go...

    Re-wiring a boat?

OK so we got that out of the way. All these solutions flying around. What is it that you are trying to fix that you need to rewire the boat?

    Re-wiring a boat?

Lucky Kali - You really should start a new thread. It's confusing that it is attached to an old one. To DennisG01's question why? What year is the boat?

96 - 208 Soft spot over gas tank

DennisG01 - I respectfully disagree on polyester for a repair. Polyester sticks well to "green" polyester when laying a hull up (chemical bond). For repairs epoxy "sticks" well to cured polyester (mechanical bond). It doesn't smell, easier to work with (pot life) but is more expensive. You...

    GemLux Deluxe Outrigger Bases

Underside of the hardtop finished today. 3M Perfect-It finish (sanded out, with Trizak 800/1500/3000/5000/8000 and polished with Perfect-It One Step polish - no compounding). Two coats of Awlgrip AwlCare sealer - hand applied. No wax on AwlCraft finishes - only sealer. So the question is what...

    Crappy situation - update!

I could not get sensor to come out. I think some bozo used contact cement as a thread sealer. The cap is 8-sides. Could not fine a tool to get it out. Adjustable wrench kept slipping. I gave up!

    Crappy situation - update!

Yea - that's a winner! Explains a lot. Holding tank is small. You have to assume if you use it that it should be emptied every day. This past winter was a problem in Islamorada. My pump wasn't working - bad impeller. Bass Pro Shops pumpout system was broken. I could not find a marina in the 20...

Replacing rotted bulkhead on 2001 226

Yes - they rot from the bottom up. And they swell up too.

96 - 208 Soft spot over gas tank

I would use epoxy not polyester for the repair. I used one-piece Coosa board composite. Marine plywood squares are ok too but it should be saturated with resin. I vacuum bagged the Coosa board in to compress everything together and get the air out. Support was added last and glassed in. All...

    Crappy situation - update!

I replaced the Grocco macerator with a Jabsco. It works well. The Grocco is great when its working. Sitting in the tank makes it a terrible job. But it doesn't have to lift". The Jabsco uses silicone hoses to maintain a good seal yet allow things to be taken apart.

    Crappy situation - update!

That makes more sense. Someone dropped it into the head or tank and flushed it. I thought you were talking about the macerator and overboard hose. So what works now? Deck pump out? Overboard macerator pump out?

    Crappy situation - update!

Not buying that. I doubt it would even fit in the hose. Are you telling us everything is now your pump is working?

96 - 208 Soft spot over gas tank

I'm not familiar with that model. Some pictures of the deck would help. As Seasick said - there are lots of posts on this topic - it's a common problem with the older Grady's. I did my 1997 Islander a few years back and documented it here.

Replacing rotted bulkhead on 2001 226

You can order the Seafoam starboard online. Amazon is a good source. Order pieces (not a full sheet) to keep shipping reasonable. Have a shop or marina check their distributors (like Mesco in my area). I went to a local guy to buy it. He went ahead and cut and routed everything for me while I...

Northern Ohio does anyone know where I can buy a top like this used? I picked up a 1984 257 pro that I need one for.

Do you have the aluminum 1/2 tower? The tower guys can make a lightweight top for you. Finding a used one is going to be difficult. They don't age well and would likely need gelcoat repairs.

I know but I didn't work the finish on top as much as I did underneath. I wanted a little texture to hide small imperfections. I can't roll or brush AwlCraft 2000 - spray only - so no stippling paint. I had to finish the top Thursday. If I put it off I'll be into next week. Running out of...

    Sealing the Deck

3M 4000 is what I’m using. It is UV stable. While the deck is up make sure it’s not wet and rotting out. You can replace the core and save the hatch. Screw holes around the hatch are a big source of leaks especially into the core. Deck plates can be ordered from Beckston in GW color. Use the...
