What about it needs "rebuilding"? And when you say "window" can you be more specific -- hatch, port, windshield, ?

    Couple of motor bracket questions

Yes, there should be a seal. Personally, I would seal it up with a generous dose of marine quality silicone sealant such as 3M 4200. In related news... do you really have a transducer cable routed through the transom below the water line? Did a boneheaded previous owner do that? I'd be very...

    Covers and Antennaes UPDATE

Obviously a taller antenna will get your VHF signals to go a bit farther, but if you are willing to switch to a 4' antenna (as I have) then it won't hang off the back of the hardtop when folded down. A trade-off worth thinking about...

Installing Garmin 18 Fantom on my Grady white seafarer

Grady Dan, nice work there, sir. I like your approach to making the upper section of the dash accommodate larger displays by mounting the starboard on top of the opening instead of flush. I will do something similar when I repower in a few years. One question: did you consider taking the...

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

Thanks, ROBERTH and everyone else for sharing your knowledge with me. Collectively y'all have already made a world of difference in how it runs. Setting the TPS right helped a lot. I think it was running very rich at lower throttle openings (since the TPS was out of calibration) and that was...

    Questions/concerns about possibly purchasing a 228 Seafarer...

If I really wanted this particular boat, I would use the misrepresented hours and the bigger ticket non-working items (such as trim tabs & vhf) and missing/in-need-of-redo cushions to knock a couple of grand off the price. Then I would arrange to have a certified Suzuki mechanic (independently...

    UGH........New Control Cables

I agree... a lot of stuff going on there with wiring, drain tubes, hydraulic steering lines, etc. But, by clipping the existing zip ties and separating the wiring out of the way you should have sufficient room to work. While your boat is different than my 228, I know if I had to pull new...

    UGH........New Control Cables

Unless you know or can accurately determine control cable length, it is best to pull the old and measure before acquiring new ones. You want to be as close as possible.

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

I took the boat out today and it runs better now with the TPS voltage calibrated and the butterflies synchronized. Still kind of a loping idle, but smoother than it was and no hunting/surging. Next up will be the O2 sensor and housing -- I'll clean those up good and may swap to the new sensor...

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

I finally had a chance to work on my engine and hook up YDS. TPS voltage was 0.64V with throttles closed. I adjusted it to 0.5V as the service manual specs. Was it off enough to cause rough running at low RPM and in gear? Now at wide open throttle TPS reads 4.0V which YDS says is 79 degrees...

    Cut, buff, wax.

I'm having my 228 polished and waxed in 2 weeks. Quote is $1,150 including removal of registration #'s, all decals and hull stripe. I'll be installing the new graphics myself. Fingers crossed they don't burn through the gelcoat!

    GW Decals?

If money isn't a concern, go to your dealer and order. I'm going a lower cost route refreshing my 228 with a buffing, waxing, and new decals & stripes... DiscontinuedDecals.com has G-W hull logo and model-specific decals in a few different styles. And HullStripes.com can make any stripe set...

    Cut, buff, wax.

Wow, what an incredible result. I'm having mine compounded and polished in 3 weeks... I'll be ecstatic if it comes out 1/2 as good as yours!

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

Fishtales: Yes, a proper dose of Ring Free Plus goes in every time I add fuel. Glacierbaze: Excellent info on the O2 sensor. $29 via Amazon Prime so I ordered one -- splicing the Yami plug onto it (and saving $300 in the process) is a task I will enjoy. Bartoma: I do have YDS on an old...

    Spring projects...

I was going to suggest the same. Fill and vent for Aux tank, which your boat clearly doesn't have (at least not anymore).

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

Thank you all for the very helpful answers! It's good to learn that it should run as a V6 once in gear, although I was pretty sure (based on reading elsewhere) it stays V4 even in gear up to a certain RPM and then goes to V6 mode. Either way y'all have confirmed that I have a problem of some...

HPDI 200 - how smooth should it run at low RPM?

I know the HPDI V6s run as a V4 at lower RPM to minimize fuel consumption. That's all fine and good, I guess. But my outboard is decidedly unsmooth when in V4 mode and in gear. Idle in neutral is OK, but when in gear and running slow between 600 & 1200 RPM it shakes noticeably and sends...

    Best boat trailering stories

This was 25 years ago, towing a 20' Shamrock -- a very heavy boat for its size. I'm slowly accelerating away from a highway toll booth when I notice the passenger in the car to my left gesturing frantically and pointing back towards my boat. I wasn't thinking much of this overly exuberant...

No Water from Pee Hole, 1994 Yamaha 200 2s

I've also had trouble getting a Yamaha to pee when using muffs. I found that after starting if I put pressure on both muffs to minimize the water escaping it pushed enough water up to the pump to prime it and then it pee'd fine for as long as I wanted to run it (without having to continue to...
