    Sealing Deck Hatches

soap & water, rag & brush. Sometimes I'll knock the mold off the bulkheads with a light powerwasher. Important to remember that anything that falls in there has to fit through a 1 inch pipe to ever get out...

Groco pump -simple macerator retrofit- 265 Express

I struggle with committing to a project that will be used two or three times a year. I can probably get away with just replacing the Jabsco hand pump and using a pumpout at a gas dock if someone soils the tank. For my offshore fishing crew, a 5 gallon bucket works in an emergency. Women...

Groco pump -simple macerator retrofit- 265 Express

You pulld the Groco assembly out and added that white rectangle in its place? Screwed & silicone? pickup pipe down to how far? You don't have vented loops?. Did you remove or never had them The Y valve allows him to pump directly overboard versus into tank then overboard. edit: I'm starting...

Groco pump -simple macerator retrofit- 265 Express

idk how I'm gonna get this out without cutting hoses. Really don''t want to commit to cutting hoses yet. I can barely get a hand in there to take pix. Got the vent hose off thats it. If I hurt myself I can get one fingertip on one of the vented loops. For reference...Some pix of a 265 express...

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

Matching a faded old boat isn't possible because even if you get the color perfect, the shine won't match. If you are going to prep and paint/gelcoat the whole console, then at least you don't have to blend to old gelcoat. Depending on the rest of the boat, that could be a worthwhile project...

Patching a hole in console top, proper procedure?

After a patch you have to paint or gelcoat. How far are you going with that? It will never blend or match. Pick your battles... Cover it with Starboard or teak and move on.

    Sealing Deck Hatches

I suppose if the space was TRULY water tight...forever..., the plug makes sense. But as we have learned, the beckson ports are not and eventually you are getting salt in there. I hear a lot of hesitation by people to pull up the deck. I don't understand why. Its just screws and silicone.

    265 battery shelf

sure, scope them from the scuppers. Also you could send the scope down the transom below the battery switches. they used old style rubber sanitation hose with a steel wire coil inside that rusted and swelled. Rubber went dry. I replaced with new style white sanitation hose..no wire...

Groco pump -simple macerator retrofit- 265 Express

Coming back around to this project. head was not flushing well. needs a new pump handle assembly. I see why you left the Groco alone and just added to the outside. I can't get in a position to remove any of the existing hoses. Forget about pulling the tank out! I wanted to yank it all out and...

    Sealing Deck Hatches

I use a razor, then scrubby pad with solvent. Vacuum cleaner is needed. If you use alcohol or acetone, don't caulk until it is fully dry or the silicone won't cure. I pull up and reseal my deck hatches EVERY year. Clean & inspect tanks. Air it out all winter. if you are "good" you just lay it...

    Mystery Part & Stainless Cleaning

There has been an evolution in gps "antennas". Long ago they were just the "antenna" that connected to a gps receiver. Then they got the receiver circuit inside of them. First that used NMEA01983 to connect the position data to other electronics. Then it went to NMEA2K. MUCH better. Then they...

    Mystery Part & Stainless Cleaning

The anodized aluminum can be cleaned up a little, but it will never look like new anodized aluminum again. I've seen it stripped of the anodized surface and then polished. Then you have to polish it relentlessly. Strip & paint is another option. That looks like a gps puck. Could even be a...

Water is midship and aft bilge after washing

Spraying a hose on hatches from a side angle will get water in them also "pop-up" cleats will take in water, especially when you are hosing down the boat Rod grommets in gunnels. A disconnected speedometer tubing (learned that one on a past boat) Windsheild Washer hose disconnected and...
