1999 seafarer 228 makeover/ flush mount for 2 nine inch screens.

I purchased a 228 with a Yamaha 225 ox 66 on the east coast in June and I’m busy redoing things.
1. Buffing in and out some wet sanding ( lots of patience)
2. Replacing all hoses( heat gun is your best friend)
3. Checking all electrical.
4. New electronics flush mount I designed. No holes cut ( what do you all think) any tips on how I can improve it?
5. Trailer Is getting all ss Kodiak Brakes electric over hydraulic.

I really like the way you mounted your MFD'S

GREAT job compounding your hull. I did that over the winter. Yes patience and Advil. ;)

Thanks everyone today I made progress almost finished all the electrical new bilge pumps, wash down pump, livewell pump( replaced the original one from 1999 a pain to remove heat gun is your friend)

Bdsp the stripe I removed it with the heat gun. I tried the drill with the rubber wheel but the hull lip on top of the stripe prevents you from removing it completely. I liking the clean look I might not put the stripe back.

What do you all think about buying a high water alarm for the bilge? There is no bilge access unless you pull out the livewell.

I just pulled my live well on my 1999 228 and replaced all the hoses and bilge pump. Also installed a thru hull transducer and a new sea cock valve handle. It's a tight squeeze in there.

How come you replaced just the handle rather than the entire valve on the sea cock?

I definitely am not looking forward to working in the bilge

The smaller 3/4" hoses I bought at west marine. The 1 1/2" drain hose for the live well I bought it at ace supply. The rod connection was broke at the handle that's why I just replace that. I was thinking of replacing the valve but I decided against it for now, they don't leak and they function properly. It's a intimidating place to work especially when your 6'3" and 295# and have both knees totally replace and your getting old and don't bend as well as I used to but the more I did it it's not that bad. I was very nervous cutting the hole for transducer but all went well.

Oh yea I bought the exact same bilge pump, then I left my original bottom piece in and just slipped the new one right in, no screws easiest way in my view.

*Electronics box attached with L brackets using existing hinge holes.
*before and after bilge pics
*self bailing hoses replaced

Next I will be working on the 225 ox66 replacing the trim and tilt motor , spark plugs, filters and thermostats.

Getting close to water testing it..

What did you use to clean the bilge? Did you use the same around the batteries?

Also, did you end up leaving your original thru hulls or replaced them?

I bought a 12 volt alarm off Amazon, it has a red led in it ,mounted in the pocket where sink spigot is. I wired it so if bilge float comes on ,itgoes off,pretty loud.my boat stays dry,so I figured if the float trips on pump,I want to hear it

I used a gallon of Oil Eater Degreaser and dove into the bilge with a brush in hand. I also took out both batteries, the oil tank and cleaned both sides.

Here are a few update photos.
1.Finished installing electronics
2. Made the electrical wire box (the one that has the capacity plate) out of starboard.
3. Polish topside/ interior
4. installed Scotty Down riggers

Next on the list
1. rub rail cleaning
2. installing a swim platform bracket for a 9.9 kicker
3. Designing and under gunnel storage box for dock lines.

Wow Timcan you sure got her to shine. How bad was it to begin with? We have similar year 228's. My gel coat was didn't shine at all and I'd like to improve it.

What products methods did you use to buff it out?

Good idea on replacing all the hoses. luckily the former owner replaced most of mine but I did find a surprise when I went to fuel it for the first time after it's cross country journey with a full tank of gas. The filler hose leaked like a sivand gallons of gas poured into the foam below the deck. fumes were terrible. Likely the reason why former owner sold it. Scupper hoses are next.

Have you guys replaced the front bilge hose? I did all of the rear ones and had planned to do the front hose but other tasks took priority. Debating if I should just wait to next offseason as I’ve been working nonstop on the weekends since November

I haven't yet, low priority in my mind compared to other hoses.
