265 battery shelf

I’ll warn you that this is going to be a weird one. My scupper hoses are completely dry rotted On my 265. It appears that the only way to attach to the scupper end is to remove the batteries and the shelf. I am just now ordering parts, doing all of the sanitation hoses too, and trying to figure out the battery shelf. I can certainly cut anything out but how would I replace it? I have never done fiberglass work so I’m hoping the answer isn’t to glass the existing shelf back in.
in reading several other threads it appears that SkunkBoat may have solved this challenge already. Are you out ther Skunk? How did you reattach the shelf to hold 2 batteries each?

I re-screwed the ledge (it had giant staples originally) into the thick forward wall and glued a ledge onto the hull wall. So the shelf sits on the stringer and those two ledges... (three sides)

Do NOT screw into the balsa cored hull wall!

I did not re-glass the shelf. Figure I'll be in there again someday for some reason. Its just screws down into ledges

I'm not overly familiar with your particular setup - and maybe this is essentially the same idea as Skunk mentioned (or just a different version)... can you cut out the middle of the shelf and leave a 1" perimeter still intact? Then screw a new shelf (starboard or whatever) back down to this 1" perimeter?

ya that would work...it would just raise the batteries the thickness of the shelf ...but theres room.

The shelf was attached by giant staples shot through the wall that the fuel tank valve is mounted on. Then they put one layer of glass on top of the shelf, glassing it to that wall and to the hull side.
Leaving a 1 inch ledge would be a good way of doing it. You will then need a new plywood shelf...or better yet... pvc board!!!!

I was able to complete the port side yesterday. Removed the batteries, cut the existing shelf, replaced the two hoses from the deck drains to the scuppers, replaced the shelf with a new one made out of PVC board and replaced the batterie. Pretty straight forward. The only change that I would make is increasing the pvc shelf from .5” to .75”. It will be fine but stronger is always better. I’ll get to the starboard side in the next week or two.

I failed to take a pic of the new shelf in place before putting the batteries back. This sucks because that’s the part that will help the next guy in the future. I’ll definitely snap the pic on the starboard side.

Seriously? What do you mean or can you point me to a thread as to why and what to replace it with? Now that these hoses were so rotten im doing the head and the fuel hoses. Then will be electrical inclusion new electronics.

The rusty 40A red button breaker under the white plastic cover.

Replace it with a Bussman 185 series or 187 series MRCB or similar other brand. They are trip-able like a switch.

I have one on order on your recomendation. But can you explain what this controls? The best I can find in the Manual is it runs Accessories? Meaning the electronics im guessing?

it runs EVERYTHING , all your lights, your horn, your wiper, your electronics, your Manual bilge pump switches.

It feeds the "House" +12v terminal block to the fuse panel(s) and the switch panel breakers.

Wow, those hoses look pretty scary. Seeing them makes me think the hoses on my 2001 265 are probably just as bad. After cutting the shelf, was it easy to access both the transom side of the hose as well as the deck drain side? I pulled up the deck access plates 2 years ago and don't really want to do it again so soon. Is hose replacement possible without deck plate removal? Thank you in advance for your reply.

No, cutting in the shelf only gave access to scupper side. You still need to remove the hatch so that you can get to the deck drain side. For me the starboard side was harder and took 4 hours. The port side I got done in only 3 hours. I have no interest in doing this again to get to 2 hours . My boat is a 2003 so I have to assume that yours is just as bad. My boat would have sunk!
I just asked about resealing the deck plates On another thread. Why do you say you don’t want to open up again so soon? Was the re-sealing a challenge?

you have to pull the rear deck hatch.

I guarantee you need new hoses
