over the weekend, i got the tank for the final time. i first installed the aluminum banding. banding was screwed to the stringer on each side of the tank (4 pieces total, front and back on both sides). i pre-drilled the holes and filled with resin before running the screws in. i also caulked behind the banding (between the banding and stringer) to prevent moisture sitting behind the banding. i also used 316 stainless screws and isolated them from the banding with a rubber washer and more silicone caulk. where the bands will break over the top corner of the tank i placed ABS plastic shipping corner protectors and secured them with 5200.
the tank sits a little crooked in the bilge, less than a 3 degree rotation to port. it seemed to snuggle in well like that rather than if i put it in perfectly straight, it had a slight wobble to it. i figure its better to have the tank where it wants to be and have a good fit.
to complete the install, the bands will bend over the tank and right and left bands will be cinched down with a 316 stainless turnbuckle with jam nuts. neoprene will be again added to the top of the tank to prevent the turnbuckle from resting on the tank. 5200 will be used again.
i know i am getting pretty anal with this, but i really want to make sure this is a good install.
