Anyone install an Intermittent Windshield Wiper switch?

Looking for something that doesn't look like it came off a Buick
Is there a Marine grade one out there? Curious why boats don't come with these for those days (many) when an intermittent wiper is needed.

Excellent idea and a good question. I'll bet some high-end boats have them.

The closest I've come, is to connect a momentary push button to feed wire, (off the existing wiper switch). I used the same type of switch as the horn button. Just swapped out one of the spares. Anytime there's some spray, just tap the button and it will cycle the wipers one time, (as long as the "self-park" is working).

Great idea. I find yself wanting the same thing all the time. I like the push button idea, I may have to give that a try.

The Push Button idea doesn't work for me since I now simply hit the On/Off switch once for the same efect. I want a true every 15 seconds or so intermittant wiper switch. I know I can pick one up at an auto parts store. So here's what I'm thinking:

1. Get a simple 12V intermittant switch
2. Replace my 2 way on/off WW switch with a 3 way
3. Connect the 3 way switch to the intermittant switch under the dash and out of site.

Then, I'll have an invisible intermittant switch and my simple On/Off switch. I won't have to cut up my dash and stare at a Buick looking switch there but I'll have it via the three way switch. Yes?

As to the 3 way switch - exactly like what you have for your Navigation lights (all running lights OR Off OR Anchor light only).

Yes - the part Number for that website works - I just did the ole copy paste thing in the "keyword/search" box in the upper right of carparts.com.

As to where to mount - good question...

I'm planning to place it up above in one of my upper cabinets (in the hard top electronics cabinet). It's a pain to run wire from there to under the dash but it will be worth it in the end as it will be (1) in a non-wet area and (2) will be handy for adjusting the WW delay between 2 and 20 seconds.
Best of all, I won't be cutting holes in my dash!

Also, with this unit, no need to replace the 2 way WW switch with a 3 way. So, besides the time to wire it up, it's an inexpensive upgrade (a 3 way switch from GW costs about $28).

Works now without the "PN". Looks good, i would add one of those too but my biggest concern is how do i add a washer to my wiper.

NEM - I've pondered the same thing on my boat, especially on those windy days when I take spray on the windshield. There are a many kits available, like this one from jc whitney -

and prices are all over the place. Choosing where to mount the spray heads and where to run the tubing are part of the challenge as is drilling through the fiberglass. Seems like too much trouble until the next time I can't see through my windshield.

I just completed my installation of this delay switch today. Was easy to wire up. I mounted it centered exactly between the compass and the helm. Looks great and is very functional on those days when you have that wind driven spray hitting the windshield every 30 seconds or so.

i too tried the part # with and with out the 'PN' but no results.
what description is it under? i checked 'wiper switch' which brought up a switch that looks like a rheostat, it that it (but price was $32+)?

would love to see pic and install pic as in pac NW there are many days where i need to use the wipers.

Yes - you're right - the PN on Carparts.com doesn't work anymore. Not sure. I bought mine from them no problem.

But the same switch is on JC Whitney.com -
Simply enter this SKU # 1JA 122370
It has a manufacture's number of SF-1806257. Either of these will work.

I have a 265 Express. Didn't take a picture yesterday when I completed the job as I was packing my tools up. But it mounts nicely just forward of the helm and behind the compass. Out of the way and easy to reach. Wiring to the existing switch was easy once I figured out which wire fed the wiper motor. Good luck!

Old post here, but anyone have any idea of what is out there now for a way to add intermittent control on wiper motor? I tried all part numbers and links, but all are dead now. Searched for solution, but so much variety out there. Anyone have any pics or links that are same as mentioned on here would be great!

Running last weekend on a 14 mile stretch in really rough seas, I could not hardly get to the switch to turn on/off as needed. Delay would have been prefect for those occasional blow backs when hitting the swells! Finger is still sore from turning on/off when I could let go of the wheel long enough, so a intermittent solution is a must for me.

I too don't want to make it look like a Buick! Hope you all are still out there and have something for me on this? :shock:

I am the original Poster of this some 2.5 years ago.

I purchased and installed a simple automotive delay switch for WW wipers. Worked like a charm.

Good luck and simply follow the instructions that come with such a switch.
