Well, you think being in a tub is real world?

I put the muffs on to prime it. I remove them once it is running.

I can make a video of all of it or live stream it if folks would feel better...lol...

Just ribbing you....seriously, I have done this a few times...there really is no need to disect every single move I make. :p

I will let you know how it works out.

Here's a thought, for anyone that cares to politely be involved.. heh, I will do a live youtube feed once I am able to set it up and link it here. If you are bored and care to look at the engines, I will let folks see what is goign on and give input.

Not so long ago my home port was the St. John's River. we would boat to Lake George and check out Silver Glenn Springs and Salt Springs on the western shores in the Ocala National Forest. The SAV( submerged aquatic vegetation ) which was largely valisanaria (eel grass) and clinging to the eel grass is a filamentous blue green algae . every now and then when motoring near idle speed through the 2-3foot deep water the algae mats would clog my intakes on the F150. I would get an alarm for over heating. if your lake has a lot of SAV both motors could easily pick up plants or algae mat and it could clog your intakes enough to cause the problem described here.

also,if I pay a mechanic to replace my water pumps and I get the alarm when running it,I would be calling them to examine their work.

Yes, it has a lot of growth on that lake, but that was not the cause, since the coast also exhibited the issue.
If I find the water pump is the cause, I will not be using that mechanic again, but since I was in a hurry, I got what I paid for. Again, the likelihood of both water pumps having the exact same issue is pretty darn slim. I think folks are forgetting that aspect.

Will know more later, the sun is poking out. Let’s hope me going out there is not another rain dance heh.

The odds of two engines having the same issue after maintenance by one individual are not slim. Eastern Airlines flight 855 out of Miami lost all three engines on an L1011 due to a maintenance error the night before. I followed them in a USCG aircraft as they barely made it over the beach to land at MIA. Scary situation over 300 passengers! Left off sump plug O-rings! Lost all the oil!

@wspitler - yes, and hence why I am not discounting that, but I am a data driven person, I do not assume until I know the facts. Without looking at the rpm, I would have no idea and cracking it open and swapping pumps out, being.. let's face it.. not an expert, heh... and if I get the same results, then I just wasted time and money once again, so.. more tests, and waiting for more parts. Not cracking it open unless I replace everything down in the lower end that I can replace when I remove it.

So, that being said, I had a very small window... smaller so since rain was not as big a pain as putting this motor in gear and having enough water left to run thru the pumps. I did not get time to set off an alarm, but I was able to look at the rpm. Out and in gear, same.. between 730 and 801 fluctuating. I will see if I can post the info from YDS, and maybe folks can tell more.. but I was not able to run long due to the prop splashing out the water... then rain came.. otherwise I would have let it run longer. Not sure how to catch more data atm.

I am going to post the results, not sure how it will format. Let me see if I can just upload the xls or csv...

ok, will not let me. I uploaded to google drive. It is in XLS format so anyone caring to check it out, looks fairly normal.. but, I am still not convinced water pump, well, not ruling it out, but.. want to see what else would/could cause both engines to alarm at the same time. Let's assume rpm is fine, if it is... then the water pump could be working. I need to get it on the water where I can leave it running and get the alarm logged.

Before everyone debates and tells me I am wrong... remember this:

They both ran fine for over an hour in my driveway, no overheating at all. The difference was, they overheated in gear...but if the rpm did not drop when in gear then....still could be the water pump, but will not know till I get the alarm and clock it in YDS.

Two questions would remain, if the water pump:

1 - Will it still happen even if I rebuild them again?

2 - What else could cause the water pumps to not be effective when at idle, i.e. if we assume the pump is fine, but.. it is not working well enough... besides being new, what else can cause it to be non-effective?

I did not see bubbles... but to be honest.. very very short testing window there as it kicked water out pretty darn fast....Weill know more when I get it on the water.

I do not have time to drop both lower ends and replace the pumps this week, too busy... so, speculation and testing is all I have atm.

Lol, I missed your analogy/example @wspitler , very true heh....look, let me explain why I think the way I do, heh.

In the Navy, I ran an EVAPS room, we distilled water. My goal, as team lead, was to teach the theory of the plant vs the manual. We spent our time “tracing a drop of water to understand it’s effect”. As such, we took a triple-stage plant (dual plants) that was designed in the 1930s and a ship built in 1940 designed to distill 1,666 gallons per hour and increased it to just under 2,700 an hour and almost 20 percent better quality water. They sent people down from Washington to try to understand what we had done and how heh.

I love fixing things, I love breaking them down, always have...my frustration is not having enough money and time to keep doing it lol, that is all.

So, I reached my budget this month. Next month, I already have my list of repairs and parts made;)

So, I am not disagreeing with all of you. I am trying to think of all the “what ifs”, while I cannot spend the money on the rest of the parts lol.

So do not be offended...we are all thinking the same thing, but I can only move as fast as the money allows me and so I spend the rest of my time testing and “tracing a drop of water” so I understand a problem, before it becomes a problem.

So, hope that explains my posts a little better so folks do not get the idea I am arguing.
