Check out promarineusa.com. They know their business and ship quick when you call them. I get my parts next day with optional ups or fed ex.

While the lower unit is in the bench and I wait for prop seals and orings, is there any advantage to soaking the carrier in kroil or something ??

Not that I know of. I clean the main o ring surface and groove with wire wheel. emery cloth the flat surface of the carrier that touches the housing.
Gonna be a little tougher since the prop shaft is in the unit to clean the inside of the housing. It is an option to remove the shift shaft if you need room to get your hand in the housing to clean the area that the o rings seat. When you pull up the shift shaft, the prop shaft pulls right out. If you do go that far, it is a good idea to emery out the shift slide cavity behind the forward gear. Has a habit of hanging up sometimes. If you emery out a few thousands it shifts smoother and prevents wear on the clutch. Just replaced a clutch because of this problem today on a F350.Customer was lucky. The reverse gear almost didn’t survive.

If you zoom in on the clutch teeth, this is from jamming just a hand full of times. Dealer said he needed a 3000 dollar Fly by wire Shift actuator since it was jamming in reverse. I wasn’t buying that explanation. Pulled lower apart and that is what I found. Glad he didn’t buy an actuator n find out he needed a lower rebuild.

, I just sealed up the shift shaft, would rather not remove it if I don't have to.

True. Not a big job if you haven’t put the pump on it yet. The o ring will definitely survive with a nice bead of 847. Just make sure you emery cloth the inside of the housing to bare metal. And rinse it out with brake cleaner.

It's not a big job. The pump is not on yet. I emailed you about item 21 on the drwg the prop shaft roller bearing. The book says not reusable. Is that true.

Not true. I reuse that bearing all the time unless it has water damage or is damaged in another way.

Carrier came out surprisingly easy. Front oring is totally encased in stuff.

Don’t forget to grab the shims in the housing out before you start cleaning the housing. (The ones behind the carrier)

I didn’t really see any wear on the gears. I’ll look for the shims tomorrow.

That is awesome. Time to get her on the water and enjoy the fruits of all your labor.
