It is now a 29. GW generally starts shipping models to dealers after the July 4th break. They took one to the annual Ocracoke trip according to some friends who were part of the yearly event. They said it looked really good and was laid out well.

Took the Grady factory tour a couple of weeks ago with a few people and they had a couple of the new 2009 29's just about ready to go. The name is the Chesapeake. It's a real beauty-here is a photo of the one we saw. I highly recommend the tour if anyone gets to the NC area.

Something I noticed on the Factory tour I took a couple of weeks ago were the new stripes down the side and I also believe (although I didn't ask if they were making any 09's at the time) that stainless rub rails might be standard on all models b/c most of the models in the finishing area had stainless on the rub rails, including some of the 205s and 225s.

updated hull graphics are going to be a running change for all models in the '09 line. i don't know about the rub rails... also an exciting update is that lean bar seating arrangement like on the Canyon will be put to use on the Bimini- should make one bad A$$ boat even better with that set up!! :)

SS rubrail inserts are going to show when they get dinged, unlike the current ones.

Did anyone see a Sailfish single diesel I/O being built at the factory?
As a resurrection of the mid 90's model?

Damn if not, I want to get those layed off craftsmen back from Walmart, back to building boats 6 days a week !

Whose got the plans for the mid 90s Seav2 hull single diesel I/O, I may have to start up a company building them myself. Get the blood flowing back in this $5.00/gal marketplace ! I'll recruit from Kmart, Sears and Walmart myself, hold sign that reads "former Grady builders".

Mothball the quad F350 - 40 footer and crank out single I/O oil burners. Wipe the dust off the mid 90's model drawings. Cut mama Yamaha's single source engine love affair umbilical cord.

I don't want to see Genmar or the other umbrella making their 99th acquisitiion!

BobP, that was my concern too. Our tour guide Bert indicated it would take a pretty good shot to dent it. Although the ss rail looks sharp, seems like the existing rub rail is much more forgiving to stress. The stripe graphics are quite a change too. They start as Grady blue from the stern to mid-ship then convert to a greenish color to the bow. Looked good but much different!

My comment to a couple of VPs during our tour on May 22nd was that the new stripe was very attractive, but positioned in such a way that it was likely to be damaged from the usual dock bumping, and the very regular "bumper rub". They didn't seem to have thought of that happening and noted that the striping decal could be replaced... :?

GW, Please make it a straight inboard or V-drive. I/O's are a royal PITA.

Even better would be the Volvo IPS. Now you are talking.

There was a rumor before about Suzuki completing development of a Oil burner outboard for the Navy. I'd love to see that thing hit production.

Interesting comment about Genmar. Today's OEM situation makes Grady look very attractive. Look what just happened to Baja. Fountain buys it, moves it lock, stock, and barrel to NC. But from what I've read, Fountain isn't in such good shape itself. God, times are tough...

Times are tough. I just read where Sea Ray is furloughing two plants in Tennessee for the month of July. It's nice having GW being a privately held company and not being available for hostile takeover at a low stock price. I doubt too many manufacturers are in an "acquisition" mood right now. It's more like a survival mindset, ie Brunswick discontinuing Sea Pro, Sea Boss, Laguna, etc.

They must be shaking their heads at G-W HQ...........

Bringing out a new model (that looks pretty much like all the other W/A G-W), that will get 1-1.5 mpg while gas is going up every day.........

Ughhhhhhhhh..........................

I took a close look at a late 90's single diesel I/O Sailfish at a Boat Show and I'll bet that anyone that is enjoying theirs today are sure happy!

Isn't it ironic so few GG members have the interest we have.

I have the original catalogs going back and went through them too.

Entirely different customer profile today than in the past.

I read the auto industry can't keep up with production to meet demand for new cars, even in this perfect storm economy. Now how can that be ?

That's small cars, I repeat, SMALL (FUEL) EFFICIENT CARS.

And the SEAV2 hull model you mentioned, no need to change one single thing, just start pumping them out to the Grady dealer lots, screw prior orders. This will cover several years to come until fuel price stabiliy and time soften the blow.

Who hasn't come to realize (yet) the gas/diesel prices are here to stay, and never go back.

HUMMER DAYS ARE OVER.
I recall just a few years ago at the NY CAR Show the crowd at the Hummer display. I bet no hummer display at all this year.

Don't shoot me, I'm just the messenger.

I have seen the new (29) model at the plant and it was nice, but as others have said just a little bigger and wider with a few refinements. This model was designed to retain current Grady customers but not really attract many new ones in my opinion. That is fine for stable conditions in the marketplace.

Seems like every once in awhile Grady will test new markets with new models. Some are variations of the standard product like the Atlantic or completely new models like the Tigercat. Neither of these found popular acceptance. Other models like the Express line have been very successful. I think the Company generally takes a conservative approach to new models.

If i were in marketing / product development for Grady I would be studying the types and practices of boaters in places that have had historically higher fuel costs and more restrictive access to marinas and water. i would visit Europe, Australia, Japan, etc to see what they have adapted. Maybe something like a 22' WAC with a hull designed to operate with a 150HP to 225HP single engine. A little less deadrise but more efficient. At the upper end of the market I would look at putting a set of the Volvo IPS drives in one of the Express models.

Just my $.02
