On the water impressions of my 228

So with vice grips I can turn it and the prop and it will go into gear
It's in neutral the shaft will lift up about 1/4" then slides back down when I release it
I'll put bottom end back on and see if it works

Wow, it's in but it was not easy! Yesterday it lipped in like butter today I wrestled with it for over an hour and it would not close up the last 1/2"
Finally asked a neighbor for a hand and same thing even with him using needle nose pliers to align things. Took it back out and rested a bit, Rotated the shift shaft for the 10th time told neighbor lets give it one more try. It slipped right in all the way up. Put 2 bolts it to hold it and checked shifter on boat and it goes into drive and reverse like it's supposed to.
Now I gotta get my radar dome installed and hopefully get it all dialed in.

Excellent. Sometimes that driveshaft angle can be a bear. Kinda have to wave the lower around while you keep the shift lined up. Sometimes the shift shaft has to be rotated a smidge to line up the shift splines while mating up the lower to the midsection. You did a great job.

No I'm going to run it at the lake when I have time. I'm not comfortable running it in the barrel .

The barrel is your friend. Save a lot of time Using the barrel. You don’t need to run it in gear long just make sure it shifts in forward and reverse and returns to neutral. I don’t use muffs anymore on my 225. It’s either water trough or flush bag .

Finally tested out the new impeller. I ran up to lake Sonoma yesterday. I didn't unload the boat I just backed in and ran the motor for 35 minutes, I ran it at different RPM'S in gear in reverse and in nuetral no alarms and the motor sounded great.

Hi Pighunter,

One thing you might consider at some point if you want to do your fluid changes and don't want to do it at a lake is buy an $83 dollar 100 gallon Rubbermaid tub. I'ts oval so you can tilt your engine down into it. There is also enough water pressure by volume that overheating isn't an issue. Ran my engine in it 45 mins, no problem.

I have two 50 gallon ones, a little tight but they work. I put the one for the kicker on top of a couple of pallets so it is high enough. They work great.

On running cleaner through there, I've been letting the engines run for about 15-20 minutes. I think the dealer told me 5, I'm not putting that many hours on these engines, a little longer seems a little better. Is that good enough or is it better to run some salt away (I think that's what it is called)?

Wow, just read through all 5 pages of this. Pig, you have some staying power, kudos. I've done all this to my 2 stroke, it's no fun. It is fun when you get it to work (I didn't get there).

Don't fear the barrel, they are awesome. Just get one that covers up the water intakes and you are good to go. If your engine is too high, prop the barrel up with a pallet or cinder blocks.

I've found that 50 gallon ones work but the engine won't tip out when it is full of water. There is a drain plug that is the solution.

I'm a believer in Salt Away

As far as rest it's been a tough couple months. The worst is getting parts, every time it went in a shop parts were on back order and 2 or 3 day job turned in to 2 or 3 weeks that happened twice. I spent two hours on the phone with tech support @ Simrad today. I got my radar working but still having problems with the GPS part of it. Went and bought a SD card to load updates but can't get the card to transfer to the MFD. Waiting for tech support again.
