went from 45 to 84 this week. I got some glass work done on my tailgate yesterday. Rolled it into the garage 5 seconds before the skies fell open. Its going back to the 50s next week. I have to paint my hardtop and tailgate. I have the added problem of flower petals falling from a Bradford pear tree...

funny, I was out there final coating the exterior of the closed in front windows when the skies started getting dark. just got the tarp on in time. both windows are nice and flat ready for final sanding and some barrier coats.
It is starting to look like I may be finishing this project at my new home in key largo. My son and I are heading down there sunday to map out a business plan. Looks like we are opening a fishing camp. Welcome to retirement!!! keep all you jersey guys posted for for home boy deals ;)

Hello all, I had to take time away from project for work. Last june I had an opportunity to go to Illinois and take down a log cabin and ship it to homestead florida then go and rebuild it down there. Cool opportunity I could not pass up.
So along the way I managed to get the front tank replaced so far and picked up the the new extra flotation bracket. Which I ended up getting in Miami instead of Armstrong solely based on S——-/—- attitude of the lady there I made first contact with. That said saved 2 grand, it’s beautiful and we couldnt be happier. However because of the 2 big tanks, 93’s I was told not to go twins but a single 300. To much weight to enjoy savings from bracket install, not enough performance gains. So those engines for me came and went but hopefully this spring…

That wood is going to really set the boat off. Nice job.

thank you very much. I know it is all probably unnecessary but when its all said and done it will be really nice and the kids will have it as long as they want. most of all its a way to keep myself occupied as I get bored quickly. this way I always have something on the list.

Are you using just teak oil or an epoxy finish?

Epoxy. I start with total boat penetrating epoxy 2 coats light sanding between then follow up with west marine 105/207 mix coats sanded till smooth then finish with a coat of Epifanes clear varnish.
New bow pulpit will be ready for procedure soon.

It looks fantastic. How long will the finish last using that method? I may do my wood trim in a similar manner.

to be honest I do not know but given the effort I put into it I sure hope it lasts long enough for me not to have to do it again. let my son worry about that :)

I’ve seen folks online use epoxy, so I hope it keeps that nice finish for you!
I think one of the benefits of spar varnish (I use epifanes too) is that it can flex a little if the humidity changes or it gets wet. With your epoxy coats, it may be sealed well enough to avoid anyways

I wonder more about the UV protection. I recall Epoxy by itself has no UV protection and deteriorates in the sun pretty quickly, but does the varnish have any protection?
