It got into the high 60s, low 70s here today and I couldn't resist taking the boat out for a ride. As (my) luck would have it, the wind really kicked up about 15 minutes after leaving the dock. I was really surprised by how much I was blown around in the river. Sure glad I wasn't out in the bay. I had the front and side curtains on so I'm sure this was a big part of it.

Got to try out my new fuel flow meter. I previously set it up so I'm not sure how it got set to litres but seeing numbers from 42 to 48 at 4000 rpm was a bit disconcerting. Stopped and reset the unit to gallons and saw some better numbers. Running at 4000 RPM, my GPS said I was doing 30.2 MPH and fuel flow meter said I was running at 11.3 gals per hour. This equates to 2.67 MPG which is a fair bit better than I thought I was getting. I tried 3000 and 3500 rpm too but don't remember the other numbers. Next time I go out, I plan to bring a pad to record the numbers.

I also ordered the oil tank guage so I have a backup system to the idiot alarms. It was available from numerous places but the price was the same so I ordered from my local dealer. Should be in early next week.

Hope all of you have as enjoyable a first ride as I had.

Where did you run at?
It always gets me excited about the upcoming season when I read about shakedown trips such as yours.
Hope the rest of your season is successful..

My shake down was on the Piankatank river. As I write this, I'm looking out on the boat sitting on the lift and wondering if I can squeeze in another ride today.

I've got a bunch of cleaning and waxing to do topside and I've got to pull the boat out of the water so I can clean and wax the hull. While the boat is out of the water, I'm going to refinish the swim platform. It's the only weathered teak on the boat and really looks bad.

If your fuel flow meter has a totalizing feature, use it to determine how accurate the fuel usage indication is and how to adjust it.
Just verify quanity of fule used over time actual to the totalizer indication when you refill. Ss it the same or close enough? Reset it after each comparison.
