I have a 92 Spirit 17 with a Yamaha 115 4 stroke and do not have any issues with performance. I too do not have trim tabs on my boat. The Spirit handles the 4 stroke just fine at any speed. Any boat will porpoise if you don't trim right.

I have a Spirit 17 Center Console. I'm trying to access the steering unit (helm) and need to remove the steering wheel. I've attempted with a wheel puller. I'm having difficulty pulling off. I'd appreciate any insight or check list of procedure. Thanks Vin in VA
