    1999 Grady 272 Transom

Sounds like it's all for the best that you are walking away from this one, which is frustrating as I've been in this position before to where you pay a surveyor to go out and inspect a boat but it's not in the condition it was advertised as being in. It's also quite infuriating that you are...

    1999 Grady 272 Transom

I generally try to go for as new of a boat as I can considering that the difference in 6 years can oftentimes be quite a bit with regards to numbers of past owners, possible neglect, amount of repairs done or not, repowered boats and so forth. I'd maybe look at the 2005 and see what it has to...

    Power 225 up to 300 24 offshore

A few things to note here would be that the OP and BrianPyke, the forum member looking at the used 200 hp outboard for $11k are two completely different people. The OP initially posted this thread last year and hasn't been back since then. It looks like BrianPyke piggybacked onto an already...

    Power 225 up to 300 24 offshore

I think if you could get a decent used motor and save some money then it would definitely be worth it. That being said, imo the used one for $11k with 1k hours on it is a toss up. It'll likely go 2k hours or more, depending. That being said, I'd hate to spend $11k on a motor that you'll only get...

    2003 Grady 232 Gulfstream

Like Lucky said above, I've also got a 228 Seafarer as well as a Yamaha F225 on it, of which I feel like the combination is more than adequate for what I do. It will top out around 45 mph and I cruise pretty comfortably at around 25 mph and am burning less than 8 gph of fuel in the process. That...

    1998 272 Sailfish Re-power

The hull is only "rated" for a maximum of 450 hp, which would mean at the most twin 225's if the OP wanted to stay within that limit. If not, then it's the OP's boat, his decision as well as his expenditure, and I guess in theory he could probably even put twin 300's on there if he really wanted...

    1998 272 Sailfish Re-power

The only issue with the Suzuki DF225T is that it's heavier compared to other brands, of which it weighs in at 606 lbs a piece. Comparatively Yamaha is 551 lbs and Mercury is going to be 475 lbs for their FourStroke version. Then, the other issue with the Suzuki DF225T is that it won't have...

    1998 272 Sailfish Re-power

You have a couple of different options here. First of all, per the brochure your hull is rated for a maximum of 450 hp, of which if you wanted to maximize your horsepower levels while also keeping the weight as low as possible... your best bet imo would be a pair of Mercury 225 FourStroke series...

    Buying a 2005 Gulfstream

A few things to note here... I don't think the outboards are going to be an issue as they are 2012's and are newer than the years that were affected by the dry exhaust corrosion issues. The 232 Gulfstream is a pretty big, heavy boat and when loaded down with twin outboards I'm sure it'll sit...

    05 Sailfish transom Concern

Indeed... it took me just over a year to find the right boat, for the right price and that didn't need anything done to it. Patience is key, as is shopping around and finding the best deals out there. Seems more like a buyer's market right now and not a ton of boats are selling, just be patient...

    05 Sailfish transom Concern

And this right here is exactly why I recommend anyone getting a surveyor for higher dollar purchases, especially if they are first time buyers or don't know what to look for. I can only imagine how many people over the years paid full price, or above, for something that needed $10k, $15k or even...

    05 Sailfish transom Concern

I mean in the second picture you've got rusty standing or pooling water on the bottom portion, which would make me assume the issue is considerably worse than what the seller is telling you. If they're telling you anything at all. Which is crazy because you'd think the seller would clean all of...

    05 Sailfish transom Concern

Per the OP's first comment he said... "that is not even worth having the boat surveyed?", making me think that he looked at the boat first but hasn't had a surveyor inspect it yet. Because yes, that would be something glaringly obvious that the surveyor should've caught beforehand, as well as I...

Would you avoid a mid 90s Grady White in the 2020s?

When you talk about the survey from two years ago... I'm assuming that's when your coworker bought the boat and he himself had it surveyed? Because A. Unless you've seen the survey and trust him, I'd take that with a grain of salt and B. Even if that was true at the time, a lot can change in...

    WTB Adventure 208 / Seafarer 228

I was going to say 5,000 miles? Where in the world do you live? Then I realized you did the roundtrip lol. My very first boat purchase I drove from Seattle out to a place in Maryland called Oxford, and then trailered the boat back home to Seattle as well. It was just over 3,000 miles each way...

    New Freedom 275 Owner

Most of the time it will, especially people that are considering buying a Grady White as they aren't really designed to be "go fast" boats. Congrats on the boat and post some pictures when you get a chance, especially if they allow you to take pictures inside the factory. Being out here in...

Would you avoid a mid 90s Grady White in the 2020s?

One potential issue with a 1995 model year is that it'll have marine grade plywood as opposed to the 1997 and later model years that have a product called Greenwood XL. Which is supposedly a bit better at being water resistant. You can figure out whether or not the transom is wet rather easily...
