    The New Adventure

My 228 came with a hardtop, 250hp, etc. $130K out the door in 2020.

    The New Adventure

I paid $130K for my 228 in 2020, $150K for that Adventure seems spendy to me.

    Trailering Random Question

I'll just add that I'm pretty impressed with how well my Pacific Trailer rides. I was on 280 coming back from Half Moon Bay and some very, very drunk woman passed me on the right, at about 100mph, on an exit ramp, and then swerved in front of me to get back on the highway, causing me to swerve...

Bahamas and open sea voyage on GW235

I agree with skunkboat, work up to it. I used to be scared of being offshore. Then I realized I regularly do 30 miles in each direction to get to decent fishing grounds. Yeah, not that far offshore, a mile or two, but I was depending on my boat working for 60 miles and it always has. I'm...

Deck drain ports located at waterline...water coming into the cockpit

With the flap valves, flushing crud out the scuppers works. I let chopped up squid, snails, whatever, go down there and when I get home and I'm cleaning the boat, I just put the hose over the outlet and everything goes through.

Deck drain ports located at waterline...water coming into the cockpit

I think that has been answered, maybe by Mustang? It's a question of where you put the deck in the hull. You could put it higher and have higher scuppers but then you have lower gunnels and a higher center of gravity. It seems like everything about boat design is a tradeoff. Want it to slice...

Deck drain ports located at waterline...water coming into the cockpit

Not trying to be a nit picker here but check valves require water pressure to drain. You want flap valves like what I put in. Probably what you want but I didn't want some casual reader to go "oh, ok, check valves it is". I'm probably over thinking it.

Deck drain ports located at waterline...water coming into the cockpit

Someone rang? I put in brass flap valves, similar to check valves but just use gravity to swing the flap closed. Which means they open very easily to let the water drain. I'm very happy with them.

    The POD influence

He's in Hawaii I think which is maybe why. Personally, I'd try and find a 228, 2 more feet of cockpit and the transom/bracket is already done. I really wonder if the cost of upgrading a 208 is worth it compared to the cost of a 228. But probably a moot point unless he wants to upgrade to this...

    New Suzukis

It's a 25 year old boat, not sure how that is Grady's problem. They are pretty good about support but there comes a point where it is your problem.

Washdown pumps, 3.5 vs 4 gpm.

Can't believe I'm first to say this, but the higher the pressure, the better. You can spray more thieves, er, seagulls.

    Sea Deck

I think they look at my boat, realize that I had to have bought it new, and just upped the price. If you can blow $130K on a boat, what's $7K of seadeck? Unfortunately for them, no deal. I like the look at $2500 but not at 3x that. They'll learn. Or not.

    Seagull deterent?

I know this is a hassle but what about a cover? I originally had an off the shelf cover, hated it. So I had a custom 3 piece cover made. The front covers the bow to the back of the hard top, the back hangs off my rocket launchers on the back of my hard top and goes all the way to the engine...

    The POD influence

The 208 is a perfectly fine boat, I almost bought one instead of my 228. I just wanted more space and enclosed transom so the extra $30K got me that (yep, $30K for 50 more HP, enclosed transom/swim bracket and 2 feet more cockpit. Crazy.)

    Sea Deck

I had some installer come measure my 228 and he sort of set my expectations at around $2500. The quote came back at over $7000. Not no, hell no.

    The POD influence

Gonna comment on some of the issues raised by Doc Stressor. All of my comments are relative to my 2020 228. Low speed handling. He's not wrong, it's not the best. But I crab a fair amount and have gotten pretty good at coming up on the buoy. On my last trip, pulled 7 pots 3 times, so that's...

236 versus 257 Help with deciding.

I'm gonna piss you off. Go ride on a 271 Canyon. I fish with a friend on his, that hull is magic. If you want the best ride, buy that. I've been on a Marlin 300, I think the Canyon had a better ride. I've gone from Santa Cruz down to Point Sur, 53 mile run, it was supposed to be 7@11, we...

    The POD influence

Agreed. I absolutely love the enclosed transom. I had the notched transom in my previous boat and it always freaked me out. I get it, if you are up on plane you could take the whole transom out and still be fine, but there are tons of times when water wants to get in through that notch. I'm...

    The POD influence

The complaint that I've heard about the 228 is that a following sea will push you around, could even stuff you. I have yet to experience that in my 228, other than being pushed around a little. I found it to be no big deal but I just may not have been out in the "right" conditions. The other...

    Do you use Trim Assist?

Freedom, it took me a while to get comfortable with trim tabs. All the old hands here (Hi Magic Bill) told me to use them and ignore the indicator lights, etc. They were right. You use them enough and you will start to just feel how they are working.
