    Questions/concerns about possibly purchasing a 228 Seafarer...

I think you are going about things the right way. There are too many red flags on that boat. I bought a Triumph in similar shape and I fought it for 2 years before throwing in the towel. I went a little crazy and bought new, I got lucky in tech so I could afford it. And yeah, the peace of...

I'm back - sorry to be absent

Salmon, ling cod, rock cod, dungy crabs are the mainstays. Rarely we see bluefin, albacore are more common but I haven't chased them yet, 30-50 miles off shore, I'm too green for that. Some day.

I would just like to tell anyone who is new here to read through this thread. And thank all of you for your best wishes. If any of you come to North Cal coast, you have a place to stay and I'll take you fishing but that is not the point. The point is all of you. Thank you, you guys rock. The...

Grady white took some hard hits

LOL. When I got my modern Grady I took the kids out in it and I was driving too fast and launched all 5000-6000 pounds into the air, enough that the engine was out of the water, the sound is very different. We slapped down hard and the kids were all like "oh, the boat is going to come apart"...

    Questions/concerns about possibly purchasing a 228 Seafarer...

Well, as a 228 owner, I think you are looking at the right model, I'm not sure about that boat. If you want it for fishing, it looks like it has no electronics and those are spendy, I spent north of $15K on my electronics, I overdid it (DM if you want details) but lots of people will tell you...

New (to me) Grady - 2004 Marlin

You have come to the best place ever. I'm on bloodydecks and thehulltruth, there a lot of people there that are assholes. They want to lord it over you and tell you that you know nothing. This place is all about people being helpful. They will dig into your boat, tell you what works and...

I'm back - sorry to be absent

So my health problems came to a head, hernia, I think it is pretty common for people my age (I'm 59). I had the belly button hernia for 15 years, it was fine, and then it wasn't. I went to the emergency room, they took one look at me and said "we're going to get you some pain meds". Yeah, it...

I'm back - sorry to be absent

And in 49 minutes a bunch of love. I love this forum, you guys are great. I'll try not to check out. On a different topic, my buddy that I got into a 236 had the fuel line go out, got towed in by a 208 adventure. It would appear that us Grady people take care of each other. Love that.

Trailer options for a GW 228 Seafarer

Get a trailer with brakes. The trailer I got with my 228 has surge brakes on all 4 wheels, I step on the brakes and the trailer goes away. And get a truck with brakes. It is all about the stopping, it is not about the towing.

I'm back - sorry to be absent

Had some health issues, still not 100% but I'll be out fishing on my 228 in a week or so. I've made some good friends here, looking at you magic bill, but not just you. You guys have all been great, I'll step up more, I love this forum. I'll try and be better.

228: how do you keep stuff on the dash?

On my 2020 228 the dash is polished fiberglass (I think), very slick, and anything I put up there falls off. I sort of get why they didn't put a lip there, the swing down door cover would fight it when you open it. So has anyone figured out an answer?

    Twin 115s on 228?

I 100% agree. And the Yamaha 300 is identical weight to the 250, it's the same block, I think they made intake and exhaust wider to get the extra 50HP. OP, can't say this enough, put a 250 on her unless you are rated for the 300, then do the 300, you'll have a better hole shot. No matter what...

    Twin 115s on 228?

I have a 228 with a 250. If I were to do it all over again, I'd get the 300. I'm on the Pacific and our ocean can get pretty lumpy. When it is like that, the 250 struggles a little with the hole shot. I think the 300 might pop you onto plane better. I'm not very experienced so salt heavily...

Garmin software update - so worth it

Yes, that CL7 is a full on Garmin, if your electronics guys do the networking, it can be a chart plotter, radar, fish finder. And the cool thing is that somehow the garmins ALL know that they are networked to the engine and you get the most important engine stuff down the starboard side of the...

    cost of trailer

My Pacific trailer for my 228 was $7K. That gets you nice stainless disk brakes on all 4 wheels, 2 speed winch, bearings that need nothing for 5 years, well made trailer. I had a few bumps at the start but it all got sorted. I'm happy with it.

    New VHF Options

I have the exact same radio, 2 of them in fact. Like them a lot. One is on the dash, the other is mounted under my hard top. I use the rear one to brag about my catch (if there is something to brag about). I leave it on 11, our harbor's chatter channel, and then the dash one I leave scanning...

    Toilet for 2005 seafarer 228

I have a porta-potty and I think it's a waste. I'd be just as happy with a 5 gallon bucket. You can make a seat out of some plywood. Personally, unless the boat is really rolling around, I just piss over the edge. I know a guy (hey David!) who married so well, his wife squats on the swim...
