Purchasing from someone on this site

Google Earth his address. I've seen empty lots at supposed businesses.

Purchasing from someone on this site

Has said vendor/person been vetted? Is he a real person and not a scam? You need to do due diligence to ensure they are legit. Nowadays scammers are everywhere.

How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

As long as you have the appropriate gear, EPIRB and such,,, get out there and enjoy life. I take my 228 out further than that in the Keys, but I do have all necessary gear to do it.

    Lower unit oils

That tells me the lower or both washers were bad or not tight. If lower was bad, still wouldn't leak out because of suction, no way for air to get in unless it's a combination of factors,,, bad/no washers, drain screws loose, seals bad,, all contributing factors to "completely dry". Along with...

    Lower unit oils

Did you change it or did a service facility change it? Should never "just" leak out. Replace washers on LU screws? Forget the bottom washer? If seals were bad, you would have water inside instead of "completely dry". If you changed it, did you forget to refill it, it could happen. I change mine...

    Dock box mounting options

The octagonal landing would be my choice. Either replace bench on left and sit on dock box or place it to the right as you come down steps.

    Repower Options: Seafarer 228G

Don't let them talk you out of the FBW. It's fantastic. I didn't go electronic steering, kept it SeaStar hydraulic. Maybe he's sitting on a mechanical F250 and wants to off load it onto you. I questioned the FBW throttle/shift longevity with my dealer in Charleston before I ordered mine and...

    Repower Options: Seafarer 228G

Biggest question I would have is, do you plan to keep your boat at least 3-5 more years or do you have the itch to go newer? If you're going to keep it, then consider new motor in the 250 range. Grady's are fairly heavy for their size and more HP is always a good thing. Don't have to use it all...

Wise Coaming Bolster Pad - GW - 228

The vinyl has worn out or the backing? I had A&J replace my vinyl a couple of years ago and it turned out just like factory.

    Trailer tires?

Your buddy is correct. Goodyear Endurance is the way to go. Have them on all my trailers.

    Fuel issue resolved -265 Express

Yup,,, very good possibility. Change out all hoses and drain/clean tank to get all the particles sloshing around in there out.

    Fuel issue resolved -265 Express

Black and slimy feeling? Could be the inside of fuel fill hose deteriorating from ethanol. As you fuel up, you're washing the deterioration into the tank and the pickup is sucking it up. How old is the boat? But if it's bigger chunks, very well could be silicone as you thought. Ethanol...

    Different grades of enclosure material?

I agree with the IMAR. Mine still look great. I'm 7 years in with mine.

    Different grades of enclosure material?

FamilyAffair, I would reach out to A&J Canvas and speak with Lee, she can tell you your options that they can do for you. She owns A&J and they are the supplier for Grady-White enclosures. Like Smoky, they made me a set of enclosures for my 228 and I had the option of Stamoid or Sunbrella type...

Just spoke with Lee. They are still in business. Must have been another A&J somewhere else.

    NMEA2K Backbone placement

Clamshell behind dash also on my 2004 228. I relocated it from behind panel under helm when I repowered and my FBW buss needed to occupy the space.

When does a repower not make economic sense?

Like SkunkBoat said, Boats do not make economic sense from the get go. If you like the boat, and are comfortable with the boat, repower. If you're considering a move, then part company with it as is. Resale will be lower with the Rude's, but getting out from under it will be the plus. I...
