You don't want to do that. You may be able to reach the nuts with a very long handle drive extension, can get the flexible spring like one. Tape the parts together incl socket so you don't loose them. If not - like Brian wrote Small pry open inspection plates are the normal on many boats even...

    Draining fuel tank 89 overnighter

on my boat (the one in the picture) the tank extends forward all the way under forward access hatch just shown at the top of the picture. This access hatch is secured with screws and the perimeter is sealed with caulk, (similar to the large access panel at the cockpit floor) and is not...

    Marlin Generator/bilge access...UPDATE W/PICS

I guess if you went with 3 or 4 hinges it would support it but you would still want to keep the gap caulked. It might be just as easy to unscrew the hatch because you would still have to cut and remove the caulk anyway.

Grady White - Safety and Bilge Access

Hey Guys- Any of you every worry about impossible it is to get to the bilge in the event of an emergency? I mean, if I had a problem in my Marlin, I have to remove a bunch of screws and cut the caulk. Wish it was an openable hatch....this concern anyone else? Don

What's the beef about Grady on that other boating forum

Perhaps because some of GW's design features are indeed very cheap if not downright stupid. At the top of the list is how they caulk in the panel over the generator - have you ever seen such a ridiculous arrangement ? Even Pro-Line installs a very nicely done guttered and hinged hatch over their...

    Marlin Generator/bilge access...UPDATE W/PICS

GMAN25 - thanks El Jefe, GMAN25's way makes the most access. Alternately, the floor hatch can remain sealed up as orginal, and then you cut a hole out if it to add a hatch like Beckson sells and many others, have to keep about a 2- 3 inch perimiter to existing hatch, add the 3/4 inch ply...

    Marlin Generator/bilge access...UPDATE W/PICS

I have the same issue on my 2006 330. I asked the factory rep the same question when I saw the new models with the hinged access hatch. He stated they had no plans to retro-fit the previous models. $7 grand? Hell I can buy a lot of caulk for that!

    Access Hatch Cover Sealant

Ge Silicone came out with an outdoor series mildew and sun resitant sealant capable of handling higher temps in Almond (HomeDepot has it). the original GW sealant is GE SANITARY line of caulk, used mostly in Hospitals and moist humid areas of buildings. Ditto on the fishing line, I use 80 lb...

flush dash panel for 2004 282 Sailfish. Anyone done this?

I started by cutting the access in the top first. Then I removed the doors. This kept the dust to a minimum. No turning back now. I layed doors and top piece of trim on top of my starboard and traced them to the starboard. I cut it to size then routed the edge all the way around to allow a place...

360 Maint - looking for any shortcuts other 360 owners have

I am at that point on my 360 I need to shave a few hours here or there on maint, after 4+ years people still think its a new boat, but I DO need to find out what other 360 owners are doing on their boats to keep them looking new. And yes GW, please take note for the new "420 Express" which I...

Installing a gasket around a floor well in an 86 204c???

I know what you mean, that is a usless well for food or beverages and it only collects crap and dirt like you said. That stuff ends up in the bilge as there is not drain out for it. I was actually thinking about cleaning it and sealing it up with caulk and screws. But was afraid that F&G in my...

Gulfstream 23 water in bilge area

Small amounts of water are normal, you will get some water inside the hull from washing the boat, it will leak in in small amounts through rhe anchor locker, some salt spray on really rough days might find its way in there too, but were talking little amounts that over time might show as a small...

    Deck Hatch Issues

Deck hatch I would consider pulling the deck hatch, inspecting, cleaning and recaulking. Use the best GE silicone caulk in almond/off white.

    marlin 30 question

When resealing the hatch use the tip I got from this site. 1. Tape off the perimeter of the joint with blue tape. 2.Caulk with Almond GE, knock down the caulk in the joint after putting soapy water on your preferred knockdown digit. 3. Remove tape right after digit application. My...

    Getting to Shower Pump

If I ever have to get in the forward bilge again, I'm pulling that cover out and completely doing away with the inspection plate. The hole will get glassed over, gelcoated and diamond non-skidded. Perimeter screw holes will get filled and gelcoated. Lastly, I'll install some sort of nice...

    Caulking tips please.

I just use GE Almond kitchen/bath silicone and use a wet finger to smooth it out; works fine and looks great. Don't use too much caulk in the joint or it will be too difficult to remove when you need to. When you need to remove the hatch a razor blade easily cuts through the caulk and the...
