    Transom cap (bang plate) replacement

My boat is in quarantine right now. So am I. But I'll look and see if I have a picture somewhere.

    Transom cap (bang plate) replacement

I had the same thought about a plate spacer between the engine and transom to prevent crunching the bang plate when tightening down the motor mount bolts. Have others done this. This might be the best $330 I ever spent. It gets the motor away from the bang plate: Bob's Machine Shop Manual...

    Non Ethanol fuel station

Some states do not allow the sale of non-ethanol fuel except for racing, aviation, or specialized offroad equipment. You won't find it at gas stations or marinas.

    Depressed? Think pleasant thoughts.

I gotta find me a set of clippers. I had one for trimming my Fu Manchu mustache, but that one gave up the ghost at least 30 years ago. I brought my dog to the groomer to get her annual hair cut on April 2, which was the last day before they had to close down as a non-essential business. I...

    Depressed? Think pleasant thoughts.

Funny thing is that I ran into a lady barber who said that she used to cut Carlos' hair (must have been a groupie;) ). She told me that I had the same hair as Carlos.

I'll never look like this again. My hair is mostly grey now.

    Transom cap (bang plate) replacement

Mine was like that also after 11 years, but the Greenwood transom appeared to be dry. But the boat was dry stacked the whole time and not exposed to rain. I will never understand why Grady stuck with that dumb*ss design for so long.

Got Cabin Fever Due to Virus?

Boats need to stay 50 ft apart now. No rafting up. It's a new FWC directive and they were all over the boats at the Springs today that were too close.

    State shut downs and marinas

If the majority of the population had already been exposed to the disease, the outbreak would be slowing way down and burn out. That's what is called herd immunity. Unfortunately, the number of new cases and deaths is still increasing exponentially. That tells us that we are a long way from...

    Pyramid Lake

There are a lot of gravlax recipes online, but this is the simple one that I use most often For 2-lb of skinned fillets: 1. 4 Tbsp. sugar 2. 2 Tbsp. non-iodized salt 3. 12 freshly ground black or green peppercorns 4. 1 Tbsp. chopped fresh dill (or 1 tsp dried dillweed) Mix everything and pat...

    Difficult time of year

I'm going to work on my boat at the marina if they don't shut it down. I can call and have the forklift operator put the boat on an outside rack. I won't need to get within 6 ft of anybody and UV light from the sun inactivates the virus pretty quickly in any case. I'm going fishing with...

    2010 F 40

If your Yamaha gauges are Command Link, they should be compatible with NMEA 2000. So if you add a Simrad IS35 (or use a compatible MDF), you SHOULD be able to read the engine temperature digitally. With my Honda, the oil pressure data is still iconic, so I can't get a numerical output in psi.

    Pyramid Lake

Pyramid fish also make great gravlox. Like the best I've ever had. The salted roe also make outstanding caviar, but you need to collect it in December and January before the chorions (shells) get too hard. Don't eat any big ones. They are loaded with mercury. Especially a year or two...

    How important is AIS?

Unless you are in an area where there is commercial shipping, you don't need AIS. All you need is DSC with GPS for automatic distress hailing.

    Craziest place you ever fished

Fishing for catfish in the upper Hudson River at a sewage outfall. Yes, I remember it well! Saint Patrick's Day, 1973. We lived in Troy NY at the time and I was so Jonesed out to go fishing by the time March came around that I had to catch something. Anything. The river had just iced out and...

    Pyramid Lake

The Willows! I don't know where the drop off is with fluctuating water levels, but fish right along the edge where the weeds stop. Also, look at the bottom with your new Humminbird out to about 40 ft. This time of year you'll find schools of the benthic form of tui chub (Siphateles bicolor...

    Fuel burn 228

I have a 226 with the engine hung on a 5.5" jack plate and a Bimini top, but the performance should be similar. I'm running a 16" Solex prop that was re-pitched from 17" to let me turn 5900 rpm at WOT. The boat came with a 3.3 L F250, but now I'm running a Honda BF250. Fill to fill data isn't...
