    Where's the sending unit on 1980 204F?

The sending unit in my old 204 (1985) was right under the inspection plate in the rear of the tank cover. Does your's not have that inspection plate?

    new guy here, advice please.

Tie a piece of long heavy line (like clothes line) to the end of the cable and pull it out of the rigging tube. Measure it and order a new one. When the new one comes, tie the line to the end of it and pull it through the tube. I like the Teleflex Xtreme cables....or whatever they're...

    Outboard Bracket??

That's the beauty of working with fiberglass. Just about anything is possible. :)

    Outboard Bracket??

I think he's talking about the length of the bracket and not the engine shaft length. Anyway, lots of people do it. Heck, I'm doing exactly that with my 17' Mako. You don't see it ofter on here, but it's always being documented on a bunch of other forums. ClassicMako is one of them.

    Sea Cast

Never used SeaCast, but I do know that properly preparing a transom for SeaCast involves just as much work/deconstruction as preparing one for wood or composite. Excavating with a chainsaw is not the right way to go about it... CPES only works on dry wood. If your transom is wet, you would...

    Repowering a 1988 Overnighter 20

I ran a 2-stroke Merc 150 on my old 204 Fisherman and got about 42 mph out of her. Not once did I ever feel underpowered and I ran that rig heavily loaded in some rough water. The Overnighter isn't that much heavier and how often can you run a 20' boat 40+ mph??? The F150 supposedly dynos...

    Repowering 1990 232

exudedude, Talk to Hermco. He has your solution in the form of a bracket w/ integrated transom closing panel. With that in mind, there's no way I would just bolt a bracket onto a 20 year old cut out transom...

    Repowering 1990 232

I'm workin' on it. Been spending some quality time w/ the grinder lately. I have a huge order from U.S. Composites coming in on Tuesday. Hope to start glassing the new transom next weekend. :)

    Repowering 1990 232

I don't think I would do any less than twin 130s. I think those would provide performance slightly lower than a healthy 250 due to the excess drag caused by the second lower unit. Cost of enclosing the transom and adding a bracket can vary greatly. Would you plan on doing it yourself or...

Ready to buy my new boat... but what? Input needed

If everything checks out, I think low 20s would be appropriate. Start at 19 and see what happens. It's still a sh*tty market out there, you might get lucky... I also wouldn't try to use the $7500 hardtop cost as a bargaining tool though. You can get a nice one made at a local shop for...

Ready to buy my new boat... but what? Input needed

IMO $28.5K for that boat is way high... Personally, I don't see how a surveyor could tell a piece of regular plywood from marine plywood unless the end grain was exposed (which does happen on GWs) or the glass was not gelcoated allowing you to see knots through it. If that's what the broker...

Dual Engine Wiring on my Islander ?

Yes, I believe that is normal. I remember seeing something about that in the manuals for my OX66s. Both alarms should sound (and I think RPMs get limited on both) until the overheated engine is shut down.

Is Grady White ever going to address the scupper issue?

What engine do you have on that 204? If it's a modern EFI/DFI/4-stroke you may have a bunch more weight on there than it was designed to carry. Based on NADA, the heaviest engine offered in '84 was a Yamaha 220 V6 at 405 lbs. An OX66 Yamaha 150/200 is about 450lb. and a 225 OX66 is 495 or...

    Soft Floor Repair DIY?

Panels out and starting on removing the bottom skin. I cut the skin into squares corresponding with the plywood squares the panel was cored with and just pried them up. All core pieces out. This was the hardest part of the project. Panel ground clean and ready for...

    muriatic acid treatment for outboard

Maybe give it a few straight days of the Salt Away treatment... Can you post what has been done already to try and alleviate this problem? I'm curious to hear what the pro's and non-pro's have tried.

    Soft Floor Repair DIY?

I sized the new core for the deck panel in my old 252 a little differently that Grady originally did. I cut the core so it stopped about 1-1/2" inches from inside edges of the panels. I also put a 45 degree bevel on the core edges so the glass could easily conform. Then I drilled a bunch of...

    leaky windows on sailfish

http://www.marineglassspecialties.com/ I got all new weather stripping for the side windows on my old 252 from George. I also bought new plastic channel to line the area where the screens slide, but ended up not using it. So if anyone wants it I'll sell it cheap since I no longer have a...

    HOW TO: Replicating "Splatter" Non-Skid

Yes, straight white gelcoat tinted with a tiny bit of brown coloring agent. When I say tiny, I mean TINY. I would squeeze a bit out on to a piece of cardboard and just dab the very corner of my mixing stick in it. It might take a few times, but that way you don't over do it. Mix in the color...
