Anyone have a cockpit mounted Fish Finder?

You could try downloading the garmin active captain app on your phone but I don’t know if your 741xs is screen mirroring capable due its age; Echomaps and Strikers are definitely not screen-mirroring capable so you’ll need to be running your sonar off of the 741xs to even have a shot at it...

    Gas tank position

Maybe run the tanks down and try some trial runs with sandbags fore or aft to simulate a full tank in either location?

    Updating Ditch Bag

As far as items go I think everyone that already commented has them covered. Make sure the ditch bag has a consistent location that is very easy to access and that everyone on board knows to grab it in case of an emergency.

    Ordered my dream trailer

Owens and Sons built a trailer for my 208 and even with their expertise they were still open to the idea of over-sizing the side beams of the frame, adding target/keel bunks for power loading, and relocating the jack to allow for an extending tongue to be added later. Pricing was better than...

228: how do you keep stuff on the dash?

I second the SeaDek caddy. I made one out of leftover seadek (regular and helm pad) and attached it to the bottom of the door cover.

    Anyone need ammunition?

I’m so jealous. We can’t get anything here in the middle of the ocean. Unless you want to pay $1/rd for 9mm range ammo

Cool looking new product from Garmin - Garmin GPSMAP 943xsv

I’m jealous. Don’t know if anyone here who’s had that type of luck with side imaging in saltwater. I’ll have to start shallow, play with the settings, speed, etc. and work to deeper water. It would be awesome to use side imaging to find bait balls. I think the generally smaller boats (most are...

Cool looking new product from Garmin - Garmin GPSMAP 943xsv

How deep are you trying the SideVu? All of the videos I’ve come across have been in shallower water (100’ or less) and I haven’t had much luck in anything deeper with my Echomap 94SV and GT51M-™. I think it has to do with the fact that the SideVu is similar to a traditional sonar with a wider...

Opinions- New enclosure GradyBlue or OffWhite?

Seeing as you fish the boat hard I’d go with blue to hide the fish blood that will inevitably make its way to the enclosure :p

    Boat Insurance

Went with Progressive last year after getting a quote from Geico/BoatUS. Rates went up about 20% this year but I have an agreed value policy so not sure if that factors into it. Checked with State Farm as well and their quote came in even higher than Progressive.

Are stainless steel brakes worth the extra $?

One thing that seems to help longevity is to keep a pump sprayer of saltaway solution in the tow vehicle and spray the brakes (and trailer) after launching. This helps when the wash rack is a good distance from the parking or pier/ramps as it saves time driving/walking and possibly waiting in...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

My side ladder is an extra set of uprights so it helps to strengthen the side bunks. I considered using the swim ladder but figure it might cause excessive wear and possibly kink the ladder tubes near the pivot point. My logic is that the ladder was designed primarily for use in the water where...

Install wash down 1990 20 ft Overnighter

My friend has an overnighter and his seacock is below the hatch cover in the front of the splashwell. He has a livewell pump with a takeoff for a raw water washdown. Probably easier to get to/more room to work with than a 208 where access is only through the deck plates in the splashwell.

    Gulfstream

On the Suzuki’s I believe the 300 is the exact same as the 250 except for the ecu so you’re only gaining a little at WOT. The Gulfstream is inherently not as “fast” as other Gradys due to the aspect ratio of the hull so don’t expect it to be a speed demon regardless of how much power you put on...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

Yes, it’s a cheap/ghetto ladder I threw together. Just bought an extra set of uprights (u-bolted to the trailer I-beam) and bolted aluminum angle across and put grip tape on tope of the angle to help with traction while washing down. It also helps to stiffen the rear side guides in case I come...

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

You could buy two sets of guide poles, cut the front ones to height, and buy brackets for the bunks (or drill/countersink the bunks directly to the uprights). I’ve seen a few trailers set up that way.

Trailer guide poles or bunks ?

Good point made here about the ramp steepness. Another factor is how high your trailer bunks/rollers are above the frame/axle centerline. Some trailers have the hull sitting lower and allow for easy floating on/off whereas others require engine power. You’ll get more depth range from poles but...

    cost of trailer

I paid $5600 for my Owens and Sons/Aluminum Slide On in late 2019. It’s for a 208 but had it a bit over designed for power loading. Tandem 3500 lb torsion axles, stainless brakes, upsized I-beams, target/keel bunks, side bunks, etc. As others have mentioned before, full stainless electric over...

    Through Hull Transducer Install...

Apologies on the caulk tangent... What fishfinder are you pairing it with? I’m looking at a B175M later this year so your experience/screenshots will help in deciding what to pair it with.

    Through Hull Transducer Install...

I’m looking at installing a b175m soon and looked up 8200 on the West Marine site. For some reason it’s all on clearance and a few of the reviews mention some of the cartridges being old and half-cured. Dang, just when I thought I’d found a reasonably priced alternative to 4200... Also, google...
