Replace Fridge with AC. What challenges to expect?

FloridaGirl: I do believe I’ve seen your boat. As recently as this morning when I was coming back from fishing. I’m certainly no expert on casement ACs. But I would not think they would put out enough heat to melt electrical or water lines that run in that area. But from the fridge space, it...

    Downrigger placement

Retail is up to $69 now. I always thought they were expensive when I was fishing them and I'm sure I didn't pay that much! But They do work really well here in SE FL.

    Downrigger placement

Good point. I always used the short arm. I was able to clear the stern of my 208 with a Canon downrigger, but it also partially blocked my rear rod holder. So I used the Canon, downrigger-mounted rod holder.

    Downrigger placement

Randy: Well, a Z-Wing weighs a lot less than a 15 lb. ball! :). I can only give my experience using it for trolling, so here goes. The Z-Wing puts more downward pressure on the downrigger, so it has a sharper angle downward. This lessens 'blow-back' gives you a better idea of how deep your bait...

You Can Call Me Captain Beefheart

Great to hear! Except for the awake the whole time part. You handled that better than I could! I would have been mashing the more juice button the whole time! Here's to a speedy recovery and back on the water by October. Rob

    Downrigger placement

I fished a Z-Wing on my 208, so definitely four through bolts for me. I used oversized washers - biggest I could fit, and after ten years had no spider cracking or any other evidence of problems. And those Z-Wings definitely put some pull on the downrigger. But that thing also caught fish.

Lewmar V700: Capstan turns, Gypsy does not. Problem Solved - with Pics. A strand of line slid under a non-moving part.

Thanks to help and encouragement here, the windlass is working. As suggested, I took photos of each step, so I'll post them here to reveal what the problem and simple solution was.I should point out that I could not move the anchor line through the windlass. It was somehow jammed in there. I'm...

Lewmar V700: Capstan turns, Gypsy does not. Problem Solved - with Pics. A strand of line slid under a non-moving part.

Paul and Halfhitch: Thanks. I'm headed to the boat today. I enjoy taking things apart. And even putting them back together, because it usually leaves me with some spare parts! ;) Tx, Rob

Lewmar V700: Capstan turns, Gypsy does not. Problem Solved - with Pics. A strand of line slid under a non-moving part.

Thanks. I found that THT thread in my search. The video is great. I just didn't know how much the vertical Pro Fish and my horizontal V700 have in common. Its a shame that the images from thread #10 are no longer available. Do you know if there is a way to confirm whether the threads are the...

Lewmar V700: Capstan turns, Gypsy does not. Problem Solved - with Pics. A strand of line slid under a non-moving part.

Tried looking for a similar post first, but did not find one (nor on the net) so I'll ask the experience people here. Situation: While slowly motoring forward to create slack in anchor line, windlass was retrieving line normally. Then line retrieval mechanism (what I believe is the gypsy)...

Update: Leak in Head Discharge Line. West Marine Recommends Replacement with More Flexible Line

Yup, the smooth bore makes sense. I questioned the West Marine guy on that and he said this was smooth enough for this application. In any case, I'm going to be spending a lot more time in there replacing longer stretches of hoses that I don't want to have an unseen problem with. So I'll get one...

Update: Leak in Head Discharge Line. West Marine Recommends Replacement with More Flexible Line

Hookup: Yeah, this thread has gotten kinda long and and you have to look back a bit to see the pic of the vented loop. The leak was small cracks in the hose itself. But I cleaned the duckbill in warm water and vinegar anyway. About that hose. I knew I had to cut the hose from inside the head...

Replace Fridge with AC. What challenges to expect?

Thanks, John. I'll have about two feet between the return grill and the AC unit. Would prefer to have that figured before I buy the AC. But now believing that I'll have to get the AC and trust that I'll come up with something, like you did. We also removed fridge and went with a custom cabinet. Rob

Crazy: Sorry to know of the blood clot, but I take it as a good sign that you're lungs are well enough for surgery to remove the clot. So yes, good luck with the surgery. Rob

    Deck piece

Joe: Do you mean like a large piece that would have come from Grady's own mold? Or maybe a smaller piece that was subbed out? If it's the former, I believe you'll be looking for a custom fabricator. If the latter, maybe Gwen at Grady can help ID that fabricator.

Update: Leak in Head Discharge Line. West Marine Recommends Replacement with More Flexible Line

So, as others have suggested, the vented loop for the toilet discharge line is fairly easy to get to. As was suggested, remove the starboard side panel in the aft berth and look towards the bow. Can't miss it. Turns out, my leak wasn't in the 'duck bill' in the vent cap, although I did remove...

Smokey: I'm so sorry that Florida gave your whole family Covid. We are, by far, the most irresponsible state in the Union relative to Covid. Glad to hear that you're recovering. The rest of the family recovering as well? Rob
